Video Games / Devil May Cry 3
« on: March 03, 2005, 05:28:04 PM »
I just got this game, its pretty sweet.  Its really hard though.  Leveling up your fighting styles takes a lot of time.  I think swordfighter is the best style, and gunslinger the funnest.  The guns are wussy as ever though, even after leveing them up to max they don't do much damage.  The shotgun does decent damage, but the attack rate is really low... in fact, leveling it up doesn't increase the damage, just the fire rate.  Well, if anyone else tries it out, give me some tips cause its hard. ;D

I loved this show, John Constantine is just a very cooly designed hero.  So tell me what you think if you get a chance to see it.

Rants and Stuff / Spyware and MS Antispyware beta1
« on: February 15, 2005, 03:31:32 PM »
There is no word for how much I loathe spyware.  The thing is there is 4 people who use my computer on a daily basis, and 2 of them do not really understand how malicious spyware really is... plus not all that computer savvy and can fall for the stupid tricks that get you nailed with spyware and other crap.

I've burned away days of my life manually searching through registry files, booting up in DOS prompt, etc to get rid of this junk.  One of the worst developments in this game is you get one on there, and it also acts as a trojan and downloads a hundred other malware programs onto your computer and then you are not doing this once but a hundred times.  I feel lucky not to have to do this more than once every couple months.

Anyway, you might have heard that Microsoft bought an antispyware company and a antivirus company.  Well you can download their beta version of the antispyware program now, and it is pretty hot.  This thing is definatily worth adding to your arsenal, so go check it out if you run WinXP.

Movies and TV / Vintage Superman
« on: February 07, 2005, 06:12:16 AM »
Up in the sky, look!  Its a bird!  Its a plane!  Its... SUPERMAN!

Faster than a speeding bullet.  More powerful than a locomotive.  Able to soar higher than any plane, this amazing stranger from the planet Krypton, the Man Of Steel--Superman!

Possessing remarkable physical strength, Superman fights a neverending battle for truth and justice.  Disguised as a mild mannered newspaper reporter, Clark Kent.

This is a cartoon series from the eary forties about Supes.  Well they have these $1 dvds at Wal-Mart of all sorts of old and low-budget movies, and they have these among them.  I got them awhile ago, but just thought about posting while rewatching them.  So if you are into Supes and haven't got them yet, might want to see if you can find a copy.  There is like 17 episodes altogether and split into two dvds... but that is only like 2 bucks for all of them.  They're also pretty cool to watch, if you like vintage movies and such (like me).

There's some pretty cool stuff in it, including a lot of options for multiclass characters.

Video Games / Minesweeper
« on: January 17, 2005, 07:10:44 AM »
I can't be the only person who plays this... oh, if you are wondering what I am talking about, this is a little puzzle game that comes with almost every version of windows.  So like anytime I am waiting for something at the computer, like the internet to connect or whatever, I always find myself throwing up a game of Minesweeper.

So here are my best times if you want to try beating them, and if you do throw up your time and I'll try to best it.

Beginner: 13 seconds (edit: 5)
Intermediate: 61 seconds
Expert: 245 seconds

Edit:

Hmmm... I just got 5 seconds on beginner.  So I did a search and found some websites with the best time, some people claiming to have beat it in 1 or 2 seconds... yeah, not sure if I'd believe 2 seconds.  The only way you could get that is if you only had to click 2 or 3 boxes, and if that's all it took then big deal... anyway, 5 seconds is my new record for beginner.

What's this? / Edit: Maelstrom
« on: January 17, 2005, 06:59:50 AM »
Someone needs to start a old-fashioned DnD play-by-post game.

Edit:

Okay, scratch that.  I think we are going to start a Maelstrom game.

I bought this movie over the weekend, and so I just was rewatching it.  I think its pretty stylish and all, so why is it that this movie can't grab your attention?  My brother said the same thing when he saw I bought it, its just kind of dull or something.

I had bought the Man With Two Brains a few weeks ago and watched it with my dad, and it reminded him of this other Steve Martin show called All Of Me.  So I went and bought it too, its dang funny.

Movies and TV / InuYasha the Movie

Anyone saw Inuyasha movies (1 and 2, with a 3rd on the way).  I've saw one episode, the end of another episode, and both movies.

There is like this preview thing on the second movie, and they ask this boomarang pro if such a big boomarang would work (forget the character's name who uses it, Sango?).  So he's like, well you'd have to try it out.  So he builds one!  Yeah, and he is throwing it all over the place, seemed to work pretty good.  They even set up this flag pole to see if he could hit it, and the thing just like cut it in half, heh.

Role-Playing Games / Complete Arcane
« on: November 25, 2004, 07:51:08 AM »
Maybe I'm just into fighters more, but so far I don't like it as much as Complete Warrior.  What I've checked out so far is really well done though, none of the prestige classes are boring and they got some pretty balanced versions of the spontaneous metamagic feats.  The 3 new base classes are interesting, the Warlock uses incantations instead of spells.  Blood Magus prestige class was upped in power to match the stiff prerequisites (namely you have to die and be brought back, which would usually mean you'd need to lose a level to enter it).  There is a summon familar feat that lets you get a familar and count all arcane caster levels as sor/wiz levels for its strength.  Another prestige class lets bards advance bardic music and eventually gain 9th level sorcerer spells.

One new prestige class that caught my eye was the Green Star Adept.  Once each generation, the comet Alhazarde- the legendary green star- visits the night skies, and strange stuff happens.  This lasts for about a week, and parts of the comet fall off and their starmetal can be collected and brewed into a potion.  It costs 1000 gp to prepare, and the Green Star Adept must consume one once per level, making it a quite costly prestige class.  You gain none of the class benefits when you level until you have consumed another elixer.  Eventually the class turns you into a green statue of yourself and you become the construct type.

Movies and TV / Saved By The Bell
« on: October 06, 2004, 09:26:22 AM »
So I'm sure you've saw this TV show.  Well I was looking for a dvd to buy my brother for his birthday, and saw Saved by the Bell seasons 1+2 for cheap, so I got them for him as sort of a joke.

As I'm watching it, its got all the original air dates listed on the episodes, but you quickly notice something.  They are out of chronological order!  Like in the middle of the first season, you know it should actually be the first episode, as its about the first day of school.  There is also one or two episodes in the first season I know should have been in the second, because of the story and since you can see the actors are older.  But unless the air dates are completely wrong, and I don't think they are, then they were actually aired completely out of order.  Kind of interesting, anyone stumble across any trivia about why they were played out of order?

Movies and TV / Smallville (spoilers)
« on: September 23, 2004, 01:13:23 AM »
What was up with the new season of Smallville?  They leave you on a cliffhanger all summer, then finally the season premiere.  But nothing is revealed, they just turn the cliffhangers into more cliffhangers.  Gah, that is so annoying.

And what the heck was up with Kal-El and the black kryptonite?  What is his true destiny?  Why does he have no humanity as Kal-El?  What does the Supes symbol as a figure 8 instead of S supposed to mean?
