Writing Group / Re: Inspiration
« on: July 14, 2009, 05:04:32 AM »
My ideas come from a lot of places. Sometimes I'll have a dream that inspires me. Other times it'll be when I'm in band, playing some amazing piece of music. I'll also get an idea when I'm at track, and not thinking about anything but running. I have no idea why.

I've always pictured Sazed as having a bronze-like skin color, and about 6'4"-6'5", somewhere around that height.

For me, what I'm writing and what I'm listening to generally have the same mood. For example, when I want to write something in a distopian setting, I'll listen to the Halo soundtrack, because to me that has the same mood as my writing at the time.

This could all be settled by the whole space in the middle thing. If you ever decided to actually use Silver Tongue in writing, documentation that it was used before that would be legal protection.

I'm wondering if the East High that Brandon attended is the one in Salt Lake, where the movies were filmed.

I'm hesitant to combine them into one chapter, because that chapter would cover a lot of ground. By the end of the first chapter, readers would probably feel slightly overwhelmed.

My main concern is that my chapters have only turned out to be about 1,500 words each, and I want them to be longer. The chapter I'm working on is at 1,515, and still has a little way to go, but all the other chapters I've written never get much past that mark. Hopefully they'll get longer when I revise it and do as my friend suggested, adding more detail to the setting, but I'm worried they'll still be too short for my liking.

Writing Group / Chapter Length
« on: February 18, 2009, 06:46:25 AM »
Working on my current project recently, I noticed something very stressing; my chapters are an average of two pages (11 point font, single spaced) each, and I want them to be longer, but I keep thinking of books like Maximum Ride and Holes, where the chapters usually aren't longer than three pages. What would a good length for a chapter be?

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Elantris vs. Mistborn *Spoilers*

One thing that I think would give the mistborn an advantage would be if they had atium. They wouldn't need to be able to read the Aons; they could see what was going to happen and dodge or counter it. As much as I love Elantris, I'd have to say that the Elantrians would be in big trouble if they didn't catch the mistborn by surprise.

From what I saw when I did a quick check for that, there isn't one yet. How fluent is she in English? I know a FES who likes English as much as Japanese.

I said mostly sane, and mostly is anything more than half.

I'm thinking that the reason Dilaf spent all the time trying to undermime Hrathen's authority was because he wanted the challenge of turning the people against Elantris. We've already decided that he was mostly sane, at least in how he percieved the world.

About the whole Elantrian fighting Dilaf thing, the only thing AonDor would be good for would be getting away from him because, as Raoden found out in Teod, he's immune to AonDor attacks.
