Brandon Sanderson / Re: What MB character are you and why?

Sazed, please.

Although, realistically, i'd probably be boring enough to end up being dox :(

Please show some respect for the dead...R.I.P Dox. :(.

I just realized that the two initial people that sprouted the plan of overthrowing TLR are dead. That's really sad, they didn't even get to see their plans take full affect...

heh, well, i havent read all of MB1 yet, I'm like 3/4th of the way through (i've been throttling back my reading in recent). It's ok, though, i fully well expected to run across spoilers from posting here as long as i'm behind the curve. I knew about Kleiser, but first ive heard about Dox :P

I'm not entirely sure if this has been linked, but if it has it's worth a re-watch.

Dr. Horrible. My favorite musical.

Easily his best role since Doogie Howser.

Hrm....I don't know how keen i would be to a non-adams written HHG book. Not that any writer couldn't be as witty, or clever, or do it justice, it's just that Adams had such a unique way of writing, i'm unsure the book would be the same as anything penned by the man himself. I'll probably check it out, though.

Lovecraft (and his crew, of course. The authors who wrote along side him etc.) are the greatest horror writers ever, in my opinion. I love the mythos, and the unique way they describe things in such an other worldly nature.

Video Games / Megaman 9 Box art

Despite the fact that MM 9 is going to be a download game for the wii/360/ps3, the team made some mock up box art, complete with an NES cartridge. They've been sending them to certain press reviewers and such, and are considering selling a limited quantity to the general public.  :o

Pretty amazing. Made as a response to Daft hands (but this one is better IMO.)
Kanye West is a douche who steals other people's music and calls it his own. . . IMO of course.

it wasn't made BY kanye west, but TO a kanye west song :P

I like it because of the video, the video is pretty impressive to me, not necessarily because of the song (i actually don't like kanye west, as a general thing) :P

I know that.  I'm saying that the SONG (the part that does the work it harder, make it better, etc.) was stolen from Daft Punk.

Oh, well, yes, I thought there was confusion in part to what the link was to, I'm sorry. Actually, the daft hands link noted there is a similar video to daft punk's original song, harder better faster stronger, and is all done in one shot with no editing (which in its own right is neat for what it is, but i personally like the one that's edited together, because it's much more fun to watch.)

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Mistborn as a Video Game
« on: September 08, 2008, 08:28:30 PM »
I haven't read through the whole topic (forgive my laziness), but has it come up that mistborn would make a pretty sweet MUD? I don't play them too much, but I can't see a graphical game really doing it justice because of the limitations, whereas a MUD is a bit more free to do what it will.
I don't like MUDS.  But the browser based form to start with that I was talking about is SIMILAR to MUDs but just puts a picture on a map for you so you actually know where you are.

As far as 3D.  Anything is possible if you have the programmers and the people playing have the disc space and RAM.

yes, but graphical is more limited in and of it takes more man hours and more work to do increasingly complex things, as opposed to a MUD, which takes a little imagination to put words into text, and some simple case statements.

I've made games, both texty and graphically (nothing to write home about, but was fun to dink around with in college.) and find from experience that graphical games require much more work the more you want to do. Personally, I'm not a big fan of MUDs either, but I don't think anything 3D could capture to full of mistborn very easily. (as an FYI, I'm not a PROFFESIONAL game designer, though that would be awesome. I'm just a regular software engineer, so i know how to program, it's just that game programming requires alot ALOT more work into it than, say, a finiancial program.)

Obviously anything is possible if you put your mind to it when making something, as long as you have the skill and imagination to do so, it's just that the more complex you get, the less feesible it becomes because of the increase to workload.

It's a little to simplified to me, but has it's place.

To be fair, in regards to this statement, it is still in beta, so as far as content goes, there may be more to come. Also, they were going for a simplified interface, if that's what you mean for it being simplified. :P

I feel so backwards in the regard that I'm getting ready to start WoT BECAUSE I heard EUOL was writing the last one in the series and felt I needed to get to know the series before the book came out. xD

And yes, Brandon is VERY close to his fans.

I hope you enjoy WoT! It's a very good series. It gets incredibly intricate later on. Also, just as sort of a note, I personally, and everyone I've known who has read the series, has said that the first book is very slow. I almost stopped reading it after the first book because of how slow it was (there was actually about 3 years between me reading the first and second books, after that I just started devouring them), but I really recommend trudging through it if you find it too slow, (if you don't, well then ignore that) as it picks up and starts getting really good come the second book.

well, it's certainly good to hear that he's intimiate enough with his fan base that he has to temporarily cut himself off for fear of the pull of releasing spoilers! I look forward to the third book when I get to it, I just started the first book. I haven't read Elantris, simply because i prefer to read books from a series, so I just dove straight for Mistborn, but I'll certainly chalk it up as something to check out.

Brandon Sanderson / I have to say, I'm impressed.
« on: September 03, 2008, 07:28:14 PM »
Greetings,

Obviously, this is my first post and I'm new around here, but not the point of this thread. I recentley starting reading Mr. Sanderson's mistborn series, because as a long time fan of the wheel of time series, I figured I should give myself a chance to get to know the author's style before the new book comes out. At first, I was hesitant of the idea, but I would have been in general anyway, no matter who was chosen. Obviously, I don't expect Sanderson's work to be the same as Jordan's, that would just be asinine, so I picked up the first of the mistborn series, and begun to read it. And I have to say, I'm impressed with what I've read so far. The setting is unique enough without being totally bizzare and out of the ordinary, and the story is compelling enough to keep you hooked. And while I'm certain the final WoT book will not be the same book that would have been penned by Mr. Jordan himself, I feel that Mr. Sanderson will do very well for the task at hand, and will do the series justice. I don't know if he reads these forums personally, but I just wanted to voice my opinion, as I like to give credit where credit is due, and just to say that you have certainly made a fan out of me.

Thanks for reading my rant of praise!
