I didn't post about the 2 hour conversation I had with one customer on Thursday. That was maddening. But I'm more cheerful today.
I really cherish some of the things that happen. No, not the idiot who calls and insists that he have a technician on site TODAY, especially when I've just told him that his problem CANNOT be fixed anywhere but at OUR location -- here, in VA, not there, in SC. No, not that guy.
What I cherish are the people who call in wanting service on an instrument that is 15 years old. Naturally, we haven't serviced these instruments in nearly a decade. "What are my options?" they ask. "Well, some trash haulers will come to you. Others make you take it to the dump. I suggest you call around." No, that's not what I say. I'm good on the phone. But really, it's that or buy a new instrument. We MIGHT give some value for trade in for an instrument that we don't sell or service anymore. What I cherish most about these conversations are the long silences after I tell the customer that his equipment is worthless as they try to process the info. It makes me feel warm and tingley.
