I read that at first as 'smuggling'. I'm disappointed you didn't say that :(
If you're ever in an argument and Entropy winds up looking staid and temperate in comparison, it might be time to cut your losses and start a new thread about something else :)

We got 9 inches already today, and it is still going strong. The pile that the plow left comes up past my knees, and I have long legs. I can only imagine how much my brother has; he is up at MTU in Houghton.

Sounds like it should be a Tom Lehrer song, something about passing the cold winter months by snuggling and smuggling.

Well, they cancelled church tomorrow, and instead we're having little sacrament meetings with our family home evening groups in our neighborhoods. It's been coming down for hours, and will continue longer. Really, though, if it weren't that the roads here were so poorly constructed, it wouldn't be that big of a deal. We've had worse at home--usually it snows, then icy rain, then drifts, then snows again, with the wind blowing, etc. And it gets colder and colder. Here, it's about right at freezing, and we're expected to get maybe 12 inches of plain powder, not even wet, and all the TV reporters are calling it a "monster" snowstorm. *shrug*

I don't mind it. I'm glad I don't have to get myself to church tomorrow in it, though.

yeah , the monster snow here ended up being a few inches, nothing to snear at but nothing to get very worked up about. The roads are clear, with the exception of a patch or two of black ice. I still like staying off the roads though because of idiots with SUV's and minivans who think that since the roads seem clear and empty that 85- or 90 is the best speed to go. Since I dont like being in traction I stayed home, mostly...

It's actually getting worse here now. Not so much in amount of snow as in the wind. We're under a blizzard warning till first thing in the morning. And usually my apartment is so hot because we don't have control over the heat, but it's cold enough tonight to be almost cold in the apt, too. So, I guess the TV people aren't too far off. But I'd still say it's no monster blizzard. Just a bad night to be out.

Wow, it's still going out there. No visibility, windy, knee-deep snow. We had more snow than this a couple of years ago, but it didn't blow like this.

see, in the east that IS a monster blizzard. And like Jeffe says, it doesn't matter if YOU'RE used to it if no one else is. The cities aren't prepared to clear it, and the citizens are prepared to travel in it. It'll shut a lot down.

The wind is howling, literally, now, but the sun is out, so it looks like no new snow will fall.

In order to qualify as a blizzard, there has to be a lot of wind. That snow a couple years ago was just a bunch of snow, not a blizzard.

That's what I was saying. A few years ago, it was just a lot of snow. Now, I'd say it's probably a blizzard, even though there isn't as much snow. I think it's stopped snowing, but the wind is still blowing. They cancelled all the public schools for the next two days, and my college will be closed tomorrow (though I don't have Monday classes anyway).

Well I got into work and found out that one of the people I work was driving in the car with his fiance when he hit some black ice and spun out. She was killed and he's in critical condition.
