The Best for last
« on: September 15, 2003, 05:02:28 PM »
Ok Im psyched about this winters movies...Underworld
Kill Bill pt 1, Master and Commander and of Course Return of the King.

Underworld looks kitchy and gothic, and it might inspire me to take up my old vampire books again. Most vampire movies suck (pun intended) but this one is supposed to turn some cliches on their ear. Im looking forward to Blade like action and a rocking techno soundtrack.

Kill Bill is the latest of Quentin Tarantino's hong kong movie homages, featuring Cameron Diaz as a sword wielding assasin and Lucy Liu.  Its full of all the little retro flair that Tarantino's known for and good fight scenes (which would be nice for a change)

Master and Commander on the far side of the world is an adaptation of Patrick O Brians Jack Aubry Series. Frankly Im surprised they got O'Brians stamp of approval he's notoriously crochety and very very controlling known for his realism this movie will be an initiation to the world of sail for lubbers....

And do I really have to say anything about LOTR III

Nah didn't think so.

I can't believe you're excited for Underworld. The first thing I thought of when I saw it existed was "They're stealing white wolf, and stealing it badly." My next reaction was to laugh. It looks full of cliche to me. I look forward to sitting at home playing Neverwinter Nights rather than seeing this one.

I actualy wanted to see it until I saw the lead chick on The Daily Show.  She started talking about the wearwolfs useing UV Bullets, which are special bullets with UV light in them and once they hit the vampire they UV light is released to kill.  That's just so stupid I lost all intrest in the movie.  But one intresting note is that her love isn't a wearwolf as White Wolf would have you beleave (that's one of the bases of their lawsuite), but a human that's friends with the wearwolfs.

Still, you're right, that idea makes it even worse sounding.

I only brought that up because you said it was going to be cliche-less.

That implies that they won't be using cliches in a conventional ways, which means they won't be cliche. Don't get semantic with me.

No it means that some concepts will be treated differently than expected. Hence the use of the word some. I never said what cliches they were turning on their ear.

I heard that it wont be a typical Vampire story.

This clearly states that you're expecting it to be non-cliche. The entire context of that post cried out "it's going to be different."

Again, that's essentially the definition of "not a cliche."

And well, it doesnt' look at all like it's going to be different, except to add some really stupid things.

Again do you have problems reading the word some Bro,.. I never said their wouldn't be cliche's in fact the subtext that wasn't written was  "Obviously there will be a few cliche's since this is a va,pire flick, but I understand that several traditional ideas and suppositions are supposed to be radically changed"

I have to side with Jeffe on this one. Nothing about his post implied that he thought the movie was going to be stunningly original or free of cliches. Frankly, I'm pretty excited about this movie as well--not a single one of us on this forum can claim that we're not amused by the occasional campy movie, so get off your high horses.

I also never said he claimed it woudl be cliche free. I said that it would be full of cliche, whereas he emphasized the lack of cliche. Personally, I've seen nothing original. And yes, I've watched and enjoyed cheesy flicks. But I never go to the theater for them unless a girl makes me (like when I saw Buffy). sorry, but this movie looks beyond campy, it looks, BAD.

no you claimed I did...

No one claimed that you said the movie didnt have a lot of cliches so I dont know why your saying it now. We get that you think it will be full of them. What your not getting is that I never said it would be devoid of them.

And I havent seen anything "campy" about it.. besides the 2 minute promo in the theaters.
Usining your standards however Pirates of the Carribean was a terrible movie because the promo's were campy (and they were terribly campy)

Your just lothe to like vampire movies.... you and I have talked about this before. You've told me what you think ad nauseum about the setting of Vampire the masquerade and why you dont like dark settings.

I dont think the trailer was amy campier than any other out there right now.
