Lost in Translation
« on: February 01, 2004, 02:01:24 AM »
It's rated R, so I'm gonna have to wait to see it.  But the previews really bring back memories of Japan!  The crowded streets all lit with hundreds of signs and lanterns, the small shops made of wood, and the insane television shows that they watch!  My favorite part is Bill Murry trying to understand what the director wants.  I want to see it just to experience what it's like living in Japan again.

I saw it.  It really bothered me that Scarlett is my little sister's age!  But it was very good - my husband particularly liked it because he said it gave a great view of what it's like to be an American in Japan.   Excellent.

I'll probably watch it again once, someday.  I'd say more but I don't want to be accused of spoilers.

I didn't like the ending because there wasn't one.  Past (Stupid hippie artist filmmakers; movies need plots!)

I believe Jeffe reviewed it and really liked it. It'll be in the Movies section off the main page.

I saw it a few weeks ago and thought it was really entertaining.  It is by far and away on of Bill Murray's best roles.

Highly recommended

I thought the ending was perfect... because there wasn't the standard love affair between Murrey and Johanson.... they were just two people who needed someone at a crossroad in life...

from the review...
Quote
Somehow the two forge a strong bond that borders on love, even if they barely spend any time with each other. In some ways perhaps this is the attraction for the two; as a couple they look ridiculous--especially since the aging Bob is old enough to be Charolotte's father. Still, he's suave, honest, charming, and caring. She's erudite, spiritual, vivacious, and doesn't even recognize him as a famous movie star. In short, the two fill a burning need in each other's souls. The scenes between Johanson and Murray boil over with chemistry. A lesser director would have had this romance turn into a full blown passionate affair but Sofia Coppola handles their relationship gingerly.

Here's my question?  How can Scarlet Johansen go from such quality roles in Lost in Translation and...uh...the earing movie...to being in MTV's Perfect Score which has to be total crap.

She's not following the advice from Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back at all!  Do the safe movie, then do the artsy movie.

Well, Jenny has some sort of beef with this movie. She won't tell me what it is, but she does. She said she'll still go see the movie with me when I get back to town over break. But anyone know what it could be?

Ok, so we didn't see this one together, but me and some friends saw it instead. I understand now why she'd rather not see it again. Just a total weird movie. It was enjoyable and all, just very, odd.

She Filmed that Crapfest "The Perfect Score" first, it just was released after Lost in Translation.

As for L.I.T. I didn't like it, it was an over hyped, under delivering waste of my time! if I want to see a love story that is as slow as this one & still see Scarlett looking hottie-Like I'll watch Ghost World.
