Interesting. I have been engaging in lightsabre (low force) games online, and noticed a few interesting things about the behaviour of people on the server. Maybe it was just because it was a UK server.
1) There are 3 groups of people. Those that always duel, those that never duel and those that are halfway. Extremes are very common - on a server with 16 people, 5 or 6 will be either no duel or all duel. In JK2 a Duel is when you are locking into combat with a single opponent and cannot harm, or be harmed, by other players. The non duelers go for big melees.
2) When dueling, people follow a procedure. first the duel is arranged (each player presses "K") then they go to a big open space. Each player moves a discreet distance away, and bows (look down, crouch). This is followed by each person unholstering teh lightsabre (always in strong mode) and then then begin attacking. JK2 has its own rituals.
3) There are areas on each map set aside for melee and duels. This is never discussed, it just happens. The melee people grab the big spaces, and the duelers stand on the outskirts of this, and arrange duels that are fought in side areas.
4) If a player has his lightsabre away, he can be reasonably sure that he can move around without being attacked. Duellers will ignore anyone who does not press K at them, and the meleers generally also ignore anyone who is not in combat stance.
My point? For some reason, JK2 seems to be an exception to the usual rule of attacking on sight. Mind you, this was on a Free For All server - its probably different on a CTF server.
