How boring this is

Well, since this week is "heart wrenching stories and advice" week, guess i'll throw something out for Gemm to act wierd over.

I just finished college (16 -> 18 here in the UK) so now all my friends are busy moving to University. Since i am not going onto higher education, due to exceptional lack of commitment and intelligence, that leaves me all on my own here in dull Huddersfield. How boring. No big deal, not like i was terribly attached to em (thats the anti social aspect kicking in) but it means i have nobody to go out drinking with anymore, and clubs are terrible places to meet friends - too damn noisy and i'm too shy for that nonsense anyway.

Guess its an added impetuous to get into the army/police.

Don't know why i am posting this. Oh, wait, i know. I want to see what i become after i leave Divine school.

Lack of commitment I can understand, but I find the 'lack of intelligence' line hard to buy.  I've seen some of the quips you come up with, Entropy, and I daresay you can be downright clever at times.  I think you'll sell yourself short if you don't at least get an associate's degree.

Of course, since I teach at a university, I might be biased...

Entropy, dont join up because you think your some kind of failure. First of all I think your way to hard on yourself. You seem bright (for a Scot) and at you age you have a whole host of activities to sign up for. I reccomend joining the Royal Lifeboat service for shear fun and exhiliration and also to pick up some great skills.

Its all volunteer, but you can have some sort of menial job while you do it.

Well it all depends on what you want to do with your life... folks who join the armed forces with out higher education in the states tend to stay in for life. Not that thats a bad career move,... just really consider your options. Look at where British troops are now and ask yourself if you really want ot be in their shoes...If you would, good luck, if not find something better.

I know Saint. I was born in the wrong damn country.

And Jeffe, i hate office work, which leaves retail which pays peanuts. Although my dad is eager for the police as opposed to the army, but the police are a really picky and difficult profession to get into. Excellent pay package and pension scheme though.

Might as well try. If you can't get in, you can always travel to foreign countries to kill people instead of beating your own citizens. It's not going to hurt you to try to be a cop and not make it.

And hey you might get lucky enough to carry an actual gun (and not a stick or truncheon)

Not all office work is the same either, some of it is downright dreary and some of it is well... really cool.

If you don't mind me asking though why the Army over the Navy or British Royal Marines?
