Why are we even arguing about this anyway?  The characters we are talking about aren't real (or maybe they are in your minds) and there is no way of resolving this discussion.
Whats the point, peoples?

The point is, does it really matter?

Yes, it matters.  Please see the above title of this website for further explanation.

You people obviously haven't read your lovecraft.

Cthulu is not comparable to your fantasy story gods. "god" isn't even the proper term for him. The whole POINT of the cthulu mythos is that there is NO hope for humanity to triumph against any of the named forces.

To nerd this up further, look at GURPs cthulupunk. you can nuke the crap out of Cthulu, he still just reforms and comes at you. You expend the entire earth's arsenel of nuclear weapons against him, and he just keeps coming. And don't look for supernatural aid either. All of it is firmly in the cthulu mythos camp. so using it just subjects you further to their influence. Even if you did find some independent, it would be far weaker than his. It is hardly a defeat from mortals that put him into his slumber.

For the sake of repeating myself, Cthulhu isn't an Outer God.  In fact he happens to be a demigod.  If Arthur really wanted to take down squid-head, all he'd need to do is travel to R'lyeh and hack up all of the big boy's spellstones with Excalibur.  Then he nor his servitor race would be coming back.

Anyway, my point was we weren't talking about some omnipotent being.  Obviously he would be hard to destroy or even defeat, but its far from impossible.  Not that I really care, but its just that I've mentioned the VHD vs Alcuard thing at least a dozen times now (not all on these boards obviously) and never found anyone else interested... and I'm just suddenly finding that annoying, especially compared to the alternative topics such as "Excalibur VS Cthulhu".

Hey, you do your Arthur thing, bucco--I'll do my Cthulhu thing.  I'm well-versed in mythos stories, both by the master himself and by others.  Cthulhu only had ONE original story, where many of the others had several.  He was impossibly tough compared to humans, but in the grand scheme of things, he was relatively unimportant.  True, the mythos feel was oppressive--but we're talking about mixing mythologies.  Since he's not omnipotent in his own sphere, there's no reason why he would be if he intersected another one.

And then there's the creature that is much scarier than plain old Cthulhu--"Hello Cthulhu"!

I made him myself--isn't he cute? :D

Ok, I don't recall saying he was omnipotent or untouchable. But "just travelling to R'lyeh" is a bit farcical, and even though he's "relatively unimportant" is like saying mercury crashing into earth is realtively unimportant in the scheme of the universe. Sure, the galaxy will keep on spinning and the universe expanding, but it's going to kill YOU and there's not a thing you can do about it.

We're not talking about you or EUOL, we're talking about Arthur . . . with Excalibur, who could be argued a demi-godish force all his own.

Did that make sense? :?

Brenna--that is way cute!!
