There's no cable. I just push it in a bay, it goes *snap,* then I smile and screw the thing into place. Not a cable anywhere. It's a l-a-p-t-o-p. Have you ever seen any laptops with cables for the drives that are bayed? The answer is no.

look, it's largely irrelevant, since you're getting crunchy noises, but crack open the machine, and reseat ALL the cables. seriously.

The crunchy noises mean bad hard drive though. Those noises aren't caused by loose connectons.

isn't it true also that earlier versions of Windows can't use 200 GB drives (single partition) correctly? But if it's making clunking noises that's not likely an issue.

Well, Windows 98 can't recognise more than about 40 gigs. But if you're still using 98, stop eating and just epgrade your OS. Please.
