In MMO's i'm careful to choose... unique names. Like my bear named Nyarlothep (it suited a big black bear). And my Anarchy Online bodyguard droid called Tiglath Pileser the 3rd. Calling him berty would be so... mundane.

I've also heard of geeks who named their rotweilers 'Ragnar Blackmane' which, you must admit, is a great name for a dog.

Dagon. I like that one.
Reminds me of one of my professors who refered to everyone who doesn't hold a degree in fine art as "ignorant philistines."

Is that his way of coping with the fact that he'll always be poor?

Dagon?  Who's that?

Again, I should probably have some pride and look it up, but lazyness wins out.   ;D

I don't think I can really actually give the fish an official (hehe, o-fish-al...k, I must be tired) name until I'm with the fish, and the fish is in Utah and I'm in California.  It just seems wrong to name him when he's not here, you know?

Dagon is the god, or king, of the Deep Ones. Aquatic sentient lizards from the Cthulhu Mythos.

Mammon is the babyonian term for money, which later became a name for a demon, and who played an interesting role in paradise lost, by discovering enough raw materials to build Pandemonium.

I like Mammon, a lot now. But to be more under-unrealistic, there's Pollock. Or Haddock.

Dagon is also a philistine god, later incorporated into the Cthulu mythos by H.P. Lovecraft. Dagon is mentioned in the Old Testament in the story of Sampson.

So, I've named the fish Hadrian.  He lives in a vase with a live lily in the top of it, and I named the plant Pictish.

And those names amuse me to no end. Especially since Hadrian freaked out when Pictish was put in his tank.

What amuses me is that he's taken to wedging himself between the roots and the plastic dish, so you can hardly even find him.  I think he's trying to build himself a wall.

I bought a new fish today.  (Hadrian met a sad end last month entangled in Pictish's roots.  Sadness.)  I originally dragged up this thread to get a name idea, but perhaps not...  (Mammon?  I ask you.)

I think I'm going to name him Thor...
