My dog is a toy American Eskimo named Nikkita. Of course, we just call her Nikki or, more appropriately, Devil Dog. She's white and looks sort of like a miniature husky.
It's fun to be home for the holidays because I get to have some quality "doggie time." :D

My daughter's fish are a purple/red Betta named Honey and a white/pink/brown Betta named Whitey White Pinky Pink Brownie Brown. I call him Pinky. I suspect the two are trying to take over our home, but would be satisfied with enough to eat, clean fish bowls, and a chance to flare out at each other every now and then.

My mom's dog (gotten while before I moved out for college) is Abby. Short for Abigail. The namesake of the famous First Lady.

We have a cat named Panda (he's black and white). We got him as a kitten 2 years ago for our daughter for Christmas.

We have two Shi-tzu dogs at our house: Sam and Sadie.  Sam is short for Samwise, and Sadie is just a cute name to go with Sam.

We had a Basset Hound named Captain America over the summer, but he and my son didn't get along (probably because my son is Batman, and they had a Marvel vs. DC oneupmanship thing going on.

My kitten is named Mogget, which is a character in Garth Nix's Abhorsen trilogy. If you read it, you'll know it's the name of the little white cat, and you'll also know why it's a really great name for a cat.

That's from Sabriel, correct? I read about half of Lirael, and ended up using it to prop up a broken leg of my bed simply because I hated the dog so much. Everyone keeps telling me that Sabriel is better, and that the cat is much more tolerable, but I tell you: I hated that dog.

Mogget is from all three books. Sabriel came first. Read it. Also, why did you hate the dog so much?

I hate the dog because it was worthy of great hatred. I've never hated a character so much in all my years of reading. I typically hate it when people write about animals, because they typically use their own pets as a template and, frankly, people deify their pets. If people wrote about people the same way they wrote about animals, no one would read their books. And yes, I know Sabriel was first, but I got Lirael for review with the assurance that it could stand alone--and I think it could have, because I understood everything well enough. Maybe I would have liked the dog more if I'd already read about the cat and been properly prepared for the presence of annoying talking animals.

That would have helped I think.

I am glad I don't have pets, if I ever wrote about them lovingly you would likely kill me.
