Spriggan is famous for not having the patience to read directions and complaining loudly and pridefully that the "thing" whatever it is is stupid and doesn't work right when he's done.  

Ask him what happened when he tried to ride that bike he assembled.  I think he still has a bum knee because of that one, but, of course, it was a stupid bike anyway.

Ya I did it the math right.  Here's how the program actually works and I can tell you how it wasn't working for me and maybe SE.  Every time you click the crystal ball all the actual possible numbers, 81, 72, 67, 63, 54, 45, 36, 29, 27, 18, 16, and 9 all  become the same symbol and then change after the fadeout.  So what I was doing was adding up the numbers and the clicking the ball and checking that symbol against the new "reset" symbols and numbers which is what gave me the wrong answer.

Well, I'm not sure what you mean, but when you do it right, you always get a multiple of 9. All the 9 multiples have the same symbol which changes each time you do it again and until you figure this out, it seems like it's reading your mind, which I think is fun.

Now I'm intrigued on a mathematical level (which rarely happens). For me, the page works perfectly and always gives every possible answer the same symbol--and every possible answer is, as Jelly said, a multiple of 9. Is there a way to follow this instructions and arrive at a number that isn't a multiple of 9? You got a few on your list there, Sprig, but I can't figure out how to get them.

I haven't found one that gave an answer not a multiple of 9 either. However, when I looked at the symbol, and clicked the thing, a different one came up once.

Fell, it isn't a matter of which number you choose, if you do it the way you are supposed to, then any number will work. The thing is though, that the symbols change when you click the ball, so Sprig clicked the ball, waited for the symbol to change, and then checked the symbols, instead of checking the symbol beforehand.

I know that it doesn't matter which one you choose, because all of the correct answers have the same symbol--what I'm wondering (completely apart from the puzzle) is how he arrived at a number that is not a multiple of 9.

because I just looked at all the symobls that were the same everytime they reset.  So even if they aren't a multiple of nine they still had the same symbol as the multiples of nine.  It's called lazyness.
