Do you believe everything Hollywood tells you?  We only hear about the unsuccessful ones, as the victims live to tell the tale.

Anyways, I'm still going for pizza.

I'm not sure. I just want pizza.
But today is free pizza day at work (haven't found any other work yet), so I'm sure I'll be satiated.

speaking of Donald O'Connor, my wife has convinced my daughters that Singin' in the Rain is their favorite movie. At first it was just Elizabeth, begging for it. The first time she did i turned to my wife and, resigning any efforts to keep her from being so girly, I proclaimed "Fine, Sarah's mine." At which point Sarah started singing "happy 'gain! I'm Sing in Rain!" sigh. Maybe Rachael will follow in my footsteps.

Singin' in the Rain is hardly a girly movie. If it had Fred Astaire instead of Gene Kelly, then yeah.

Except for that big stupid dream sequence with Cyd Charise.  That was pretty girly.

Yeah, sorry, anything with dancing and singing,... girly.

Take, for example, the probably least potentially girly of all musicals: West Side Story. You've got 2 gangs who want to cut th' **** outta the others' face. You've got at least 2 murders. Good stuff right?
Wrong. Who the heck is scared of two gangs prancing down the street? Instead of fighting, they do ballet? What? "Stay cooly cool boy" hardly enhances my sense of their alpha status. Feh.

I think I would be doubly afraid if a gang member was doing ballet.  Not only is he an evildoer, but he's a creepy and wierd evildoer.

I don't know why that should scare you. Gemm is a creepy and weird-doer as well.

Granted, the dancing gang members in West Side Story swing toward the ridiculous more than once, but you have to consider their tough thugness in the context of their time period. The way they dressed and acted was pretty scary for the early fifties. If nothing else, a lot of the trappings of that show have come to define american subculture: for example, Stephen Sondheim and Larry Gelbart thought that "cool" would be a neat pseudo-slang for the kids to use (they avoided using real slang for the show), and look how far that little phrase has come.

But that's not the real issue. Saying that shows with singing and dancing are girly is like saying that books with pictures in them (say, comics) are childish. You of all people should know that it's both unintelligent and uncultured to negate an entire genre of art simply because of it's manner of presentation.

Of course he does. He's an old fart.
If you're ever in an argument and Entropy winds up looking staid and temperate in comparison, it might be time to cut your losses and start a new thread about something else :)
