Brandon Sanderson / Olver Theory
« on: April 14, 2010, 06:49:21 PM »
During a re-read of TGS a little while back, something seemed to click with me regarding Olver's description.  He is described like a squashed down Eelfinn!  Could this be the surprise Brandon has mentioned will happen in TofM that nobody's thought of before?  What do you all think?

I have really started to like this show.  Anyone else like it?

Does anyone else watch this guy's segment?  I think he's hilarious.  I don't even care if I disagree with him or not.

Everything Else / Delicious Irony

I find it hilarious that Bill Ayers, a card-carrying Anarchist, called the police and had them escort him to his car so he wouldn't have to talk to a reporter.  It's like rolling a joint while filming a Just Say No commercial.   :)

Brandon Sanderson / Wheel of Time 2009 Calender
« on: August 06, 2008, 03:46:22 PM »
For those of you who are interested, the 2009 WOT calender is out.  It has fan art for each month that RJ selected shortly before he died.  I hope some of the proceeds are going to Amyloidosis research, but nothing was mentioned in that respect.  There is a headline on dragonmount.com with the details.  I hope it is OK to post this here, but I believe EUOL would want people to know about this, and would have posted it himself if he wasn't so busy at Worldcon.

Brandon Sanderson / Reviving Ancient Texts
« on: July 31, 2008, 06:44:13 PM »
Not to be a buzzkill or anything, but there are several threads with new responses in here that have gone years in between posts.  I thought EUOL was posting on the site again, only to find out someone posted on a thread he created in 2005.   ::)

Brandon Sanderson / Finished Reading Elantris the Other Day
« on: May 16, 2008, 01:56:59 PM »
And I must say I enjoyed it a lot.  Very likeable characters, some good action sequences, and the ending leaves room for EUOL to take the story anywhere he wants, should he decide to do so.  It was also nice to see how much more clever EUOL got with his plot twists between this book and Mistborn.  Most of this has probably been said already, but I figured I'd refresh some conversation about this story.  It almost feels like a prequal to me, like the Hobbit or the Wizard's Nephew (although it is much better than the Wizard's Nephew).  One thing is for sure, that hate mail EUOL got was dead wrong.

Finally, my favorite character in the book is Serene.  I have always loved strong women in stories (and in real life, to be honest).   To that end, who did everyone else really like in this story?  My top three besides Serene would be Hrathen, Raoden, and Duladen.  I need a break from the Mistborn discussions, anyway.

Brandon Sanderson / Wild Theory: Hemallurgy and Atium Geodes
« on: March 20, 2008, 03:10:53 PM »
Can Hemallurgy repair the geodes that produce Atium?  My theory is based on the fact that Allomancy and Hemallurgy seem to be opposing magic systems.  We know that the mists are attracted by Allomancy and repelled by Hemallurgy.  Since using Allomancy around Atium geodes destroys them, would Hemallurgy have the opposite affect?  I figured I'd post something interesting and most likely irrelevant, just for some fun discussion.

Brandon Sanderson / Vin's Heroic Exploit(ed)s ***SPOILERS***
« on: March 13, 2008, 09:14:01 PM »
By request, I am starting this thread about Vin's uncanny way of discovering just the right thing to do at just the right time, and how amazingly similar her personality and accomplishments are beginning to mirror Alendi?  She is an awesome character, but I just get this Goblet of Fire vibe sometimes.  Everything that has been done thus far has lead her right to the Well.  Could it be possible that she is getting little hints from somewhere?  Maybe something whispering to her occaisionally, through a little piece of metal in her ear?  After all, you have to make sure the "Hero" of your false prophecy completes her quest, right?  Just to be clear, this is not meant to slam Vin's abilities.  She will obviously do some fantastic stuff in book 3.  I am just trying to guage how diabolical Ruin's plot has been.

I thought this would be interesting to discuss.  Does anyone think it is possible that they get their power from the metal spikes in their bodies?  My needing to know about Hemalurgy appears to be bordering on obsession, but it seems to be the piece that will help make the whole puzzle come together.  Any thoughts?
