I've heard the song lots of times, and I can only guess that it's either about someone in a coma or someone with a mental disability.
News:
"Magic is what makes fantasy fantastic," someone says, "you can't apply rules to them or else it loses wonder!" I respond, "Sure, but if you want to write them you will certainly want to know how they work." Writing is all about execution, and I find applying some basic laws of physics to magic systems make them more understandable and realistic. Here, I'm going to outline my basic method for developing a magic system.

Eric, have you thought about trying for something like manga script rewriting/English adaptation? I might be able to put a word in for you, especially with some writing samples (sequential art scripts would probably be best, but only non-superhero; comedy and puns seem to be what they look for).

My mom and dad always have their cell phones turned on. Believe it or not, they got cell phones before any of us kids did.
I had one when I was in Japan and found it useful, so I got one when I came home. I use it instead of...a wristwatch. Oh and I call family members (in all different states) on the weekend.
And my parents are anything but stupid. But I do agree in disliking double standards.

you can find locus in big libraries (like university libraries), but I'm not sure I've ever seen it in bookstores. It's a very specialized publication.

Ah...well, it was my understanding that the last thing editors want to do at convention is actually read someone's manuscript. They're tired, and everyone wants their time. If you've got a 1-minute pitch, use that... Maybe give them your stuff if you have it then, but only if you understand that they won't read it right then, and have a SASE for them to get back to you later with.

However, I did hear from someone once that editors sometimes check out readings, and that sometimes contracts come from that. But there's no guarantee anyone will even come to a reading from an unknown.
btw when I talked to Anne Sowards at Comic-Con she said she was way behind on her slushpile (like 8+ months).
