Brandon Sanderson / Re: Campbell Award
« on: March 24, 2006, 11:39:59 AM »
There is always another option. Brandon could "sponsor" people to vote by paying the fee for them :). I mean it's not *really* buying their vote since they would vote for him if they had the money. Maybe he could even get a company to sponsor him in this endeavor like a racecar has sponsors. And he could walk around with beautifully colored stickers on his shirt. Then they could sponsor the people who want to vote for him. He, he! ;D

I have to say that since moving to Orem three months ago, I really like it. I don't know where your husband will be working, but it just seems closer to every thing. I've really liked it and decided that when we buy a place, I want to look mainly in Orem (unless we can afford something more north, but I doubt we will). Also, have you checked out Realtor.com. It's a great site cause you don't have to sign up to look for houses and it pretty much shows all the houses that have been listed because it's the Official Site of the National Association of Realtors. It's really great!

Books / Re: ***Spoiler*** Lemony Snicket
« on: March 23, 2006, 12:44:26 PM »
Yeah, I'm so excited. I can't wait to find out what it all means! You know, I don't think they're going to make any more movies of Lemony Snicket. I think they would have announced something by now and IMDB doesn't have any info on new movies (which they usually do from the moment the movie is even in the thoughts of the producers). I guess it just doesn't translate well onto film. My husband, who has not read the books, did not like the movie at all and was totally against us owning it.

It worked for me, but warning, much swearing (f-word, s-word, etc.).

I'm grumpy because there has been an increase of non-grumpy posts in the grumpy thread. It's okay a little here and there, but it's become too much and put me in a grumpy mood.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: MISTBORN 3 Finished

Awesome. It's so amazing to write a whole book. A feat I have yet to accomplish. I haven't even finished more than a few short stories. Maybe that's why I've never really been published :).

I'm so grumpy because it's snowing outside. And it snowed two days ago. I'm so sick of the snow. We can't get enough in December when it's magical, and we get too much after Christmas when it's not so magical (especially once it hits spring!).

Congrats, Brandon. I agree with The Lost One, being married is great! (Although, as many people will probably tell you, the first year or so, as you're adjusting, can be hard. But if you can get past that and survive, then you'll be okay.)

Are they willing to give this out to non-BYU students and out-of-staters? I have the free time now (since I've taken a leave of absence from school) and only have to work. I have a laptop with Word, and my work hours are 11 pm to 7 am. Between working and sleeping I find little things to do. A puzzle for instance.

But yes, do tell if this is feasible.

Couldn't tell you. I got this in an email that was sent out to BYU editing minors (although I'm graduated. I have an in). So that's who they're expecting, I'm sure. But the only info I have I put on the first post. If you're interested, I'd call them and talk to them about it.

Faster Master St. Pastor your anatomy of names is obviously rubbish and im not a noob i have been a member since before christmas and i made 4 pages.

The thing is, though, if you look on your profile, it says you registered in January. Not exactly before Christmas anyway. And as others have said, you're a noob till you've proved yourself, which you haven't. Not even close.

Well, I've had two publishers tell me that they prefer PDF format. There is a way to make it exactly the right size of page with bleeding etc, but you don't have to worry about formatting getting messed up, which has happened to me before (stupid QuarkXPress). Granted, these aren't major printers, one is the University press, but still.

McFish makes beautiful quilts that are just lovely. And she writes really cool Geek Girl articles that help me to accept my geekiness. (I know these have been said before, and I agree!)

Well, I'd say you just don't give them the product until you have payment. You'd have to meet to get paid anyway. You could put it on (I know archaic) a floppy, or a CD, and not give it to them till they've paid you. Of course, if you're not in the area, I guess you just have to hope they would send payment in the mail.

That's what I felt like, which is why I'm not doing it, but if you need money and have time or want the experience, it might be worth it. Most of those who got this are still students and it's good pay for BYU undergrads.

Everything Else / Editor Needed
« on: March 15, 2006, 05:37:42 PM »
I was sent this email from the Ling & ELang dept at BYU (it's the dept. that editing is under). Just in case anyone is interested:

I need an editor to format my wife's book. It is about 250 pages long. We would like to find someone this weekend if possible, and have it done in 1 week. The job pays $10 hour. The person will need to have acceess to MS word or open office (open office preferred so we can port it to pdf, but either one will work) on a computer. The book is called polkadotmoms and is the ultimate self help book for moms- it helps mother's regain their passion for life. We will require a signed nda (non disclosure agreement) and we will pay an estimated 50% payment up front and the remaining upon delivery of completed work.

We prefer to find someone who is interested in this topic as there may be more editing/ writing work for this same topic in the near future as well.

Thanks for your help!
Clint Wilde

Edit: Personal info taken out since they've probably found someone by now and I don't want them to be spammed on their phone.
