Okay. Karen and I just took the iPod plunge tonight. She, she music lover with hundreds of CDs, got the 30GB one. Me, not really a music lover at all but interested in books on tape for my morning and evening walk to/from work, got a Shuffle. Karen is configuring her iPod now on her PC.
And mine doesn't work. I plug the USB connector into my PowerBook, and nothing happens except that the orange light comes on the Shuffle. That's it. No installation wizard. iTunes doesn't see it, even after installing the newest version and the iPod updater etc. etc. It doesn't even show up at all in Apple System Profiler--the USB port swears nothing is attached--and I 0ther USB devices work fine. Karen's PC doesn't recognize it either.
She called this ironic.
[EDIT: Okay, okay. So, the orange light? Battery charging. I left it plugged in for like 10 minutes, and the computer finally realized it existed. So it seems to be working fine now.]
[EDIT 2: So I left it charging overnight, and when I unplugged it in the morning...nothing. As soon as I unplugged it, the orange light went out and stayed out (until I plugged it in again). It's completely unresponsive unless it's plugged in, and even then I have no idea if it plays music at all, since it's only got the one plug for both power and headphones. So, Karen's taking it in today.]
