Podcasts you should be listening to

Its possible that this will turn into a regular column... in the review sense.

What are podcasts and why should you care?

Podcasts are radio and video shows encoded as MP3's and made availible for download via a RSS feed, which can be picked up by compilers. Some of the best music jukeboxes have RSS feed capability which makes them perfect for gathering these Podcasts and putting them on your portable MP3 Player. You know to take with you, to work or elsewhere.

In a sense it lets you pick and choose your radio in a more interactive way than even satellite radio cant. Like NPR, but only certain shows... subscribe to All Songs considered and let er rip.
That said theres a lot of bad content out there.  So im going to give you a few of the shows I listen to, just to help you out.

This American Life...
Out this week TAL is a American Public Media show syndicated to Public Radio all over the country... so why get it as a podcast? Well I like this show so much I want to hear it again, its hilarious and touching and often quite moving. Really the best of the best.

The Word Nerds...
Etymologists beware this show is addictive, straight out Washington DC these guys discuss language, and its history if you want to know if fustian or bombastic is more appropriate when your talking to a loquacious and annoying official this is the show to download.

The Road House...
Blues, Blues and more Blues... listen and love it.

Channel Frederator ....
Cartoons, done right, most of the time,
and hey did I mention, free cartoons.

Simply Ming Video Podcast
Ming Tsai tv chef does a podcast about cooking Asian, and also shows you simple stuff, like how to chop, hold a knife, and sharpen said knife, Gemm, you should watch.

National Geographic Wild Chronicles
National Geo Videos in bite sized broadcasts...

Sweet to watch...

Happy 5th birthday iPod. Most of us love you. All of us will love you when you have arms and legs and run around doing simple tasks for us, like typing up that report we forgot to do, or feeding the cat. All of us will fear your larger cylonPod with its blinking red eye, but eventually they will prevail as well. Just beware of the Galactica, Steve Jobs "one more thing" from this next years Macworld.

Bill Moyers Faith and Reason- http://www.pbs.org/moyers/podcast.xml

This weeks PBS podcast of Moyers award winning show discusses Cable, the internet and why we don't have super high speed internet like Japan, or in Europe.

We have fallen far far behind.

Scary story about Lafeyette LA and how the local government tried to build high speed internet for people Bell South and Cox told that it was going to be 10 to 20 years before they could bring high speed internet for the city. And how Bell South and Cox are now suing Lafeyette for trying to bring service to the people.

Also they talk about Provo and SLC a lot. ;) You know for our Mormon audience.

3 Imaginary Girls- http://www.threeimaginarygirls.com/tigpodcast.xml

Fans of indie rock and pop might enjoy 3 imaginary girls a Seattle based podcast that plays indie rock, and pop. Its a well produced fast paced show with lots of music. Each show is about an hour long. And they are good.
