This is perhaps the most astonishing piece of literary criticism I've ever seen, recently.

After my wife's trip to Italy, I'm not sure that I can get this for you. She spent way too much money in Italy and now she is limiting my otherwise generous gifting. Have you tried lobbying any of your other brothers?

Today's Daily Illuminator:

CNN headline: "Leahy wants FBI to help corrupt Iraqi police force."

No, Senator Leahy! That's not how it works. The FBI is a domestic agency. If you want someone to corrupt the Iraqi police force, call the CIA.

The end of the year and the end of a thread (I reckon we'll be starting a new one in a couple days, since we're at almost 25 pages now) is a good time to review and take stock. So here's some best/worst lists for you. Technically, only one is actually about this year. But I reckoned, what the heck. I chose these based on humor. and all but the first one more because of the writing skill than the actual lists.

CNet's Worst Tech of 2006 (so far).
sample: Worst Product that can get you Arrested *and* ruin your PC: Kazaa 3. "Is the RIAA in on this? It should be, because this P2P app is the best argument against illegal downloading we've ever seen."

Radar's Most Dangerous Toys of all time
Should I be bothered that I've owned at least three of these? And have recently let my kids play with one of them?

Arthur's Hall of Viking Manliness presents the 10 Most Manly Video Games Ever
Warning, there's some language in this one that will put several of you off. Plus one of the games is literally the most tasteless and misogynist games *ever* (#3, Custer's revenge -- also featuring what I think might be a screenshot of some early 2 bit porn, so you might want to skip #3 altogether). From the bit about Streetfighter: "Although I was not sure if anyone who called himself a "Yoga Master" could be truly manly, Dalsim's ability to dislocate nearly all of his joints and club you with his arms and legs has caused me to rethink my initial position on this issue."

Well that radar on is obviously a joke so you're only a bad parent to mock news sites.
