Haha, I always forget why I watched part four of 'Trial of a Time Lord' over and over (and OVER) again as a kid.  It also includes the best example I've ever seen of an actor literally snarling a line when he's supposed to.

I don't dislike Valentine's Day as a sort of celebration of affection but have become a bit hardened against its more innocent intentions due to its seemingly unstoppable commercialization. It somewhat lost its enchanting quality when I realized that words written upon candy hearts aren't set in stone (despite that they may taste otherwise).

I was raised to believe in what I know now to be impossible or otherwise ridiculous: that a large man skilled in subjugation of scores of mythical midgets will spend one evening per year sowing the seeds of communism in the hearts of children, that a rabbit with a peculiar fetish and an unprecedented advertising affiliation with Christ will convert the unborn children of poultry into chocolate-covered treats, and that the winged apprentice of a headhunter will be rewarded handsomely on a nightly basis for its capture of the discarded teeth of thousands of children (but will generously donate a cut of its prior profits -- under the table pillow, even, in what can be only an early lesson in tax evasion -- to those who're willing to contribute to her education).

Valentine's Day doesn't really abide by any sort of consistent legend in its presentation, though, and wasn't a festivity against which I could eventually claim denial due to any silliness in its forced narrative; its purpose is and was rather clear even as we sifted with hands sticky from amateur usage of gluesticks through bags of assymetrical hearts bearing dangerously jagged curves or images of Snoopy professing static love to whomever'd stare at him for a moment. We hadn't any worries of roses or candlelight or hairstyles but nevertheless found stupid joy in sharing with others our time and more than likely cruelly abused construction paper.

I've too easily forgotten that sort of unconditional appreciation and hope that I'm able to treat Valentine's Day with more optimism than that to which I'm accustomed.
