Quote from Brandon
« on: October 10, 2010, 01:48:53 PM »
Found this quote in the Mistborn 2 Annotations:
Quote
I can't even begin to understand how it must be for authors who write series longer than trilogies!

I just had to sit back and laugh, knowing the Brandon has already started writing a series with a planned 10 books.  :)

I guess when he gets to the 4th book he will begin to understand.

He also said that writing the WoT has taught him a lot about writing a multi part series

And doesn't he write his annotations concurrently with the content? They get edited and posted later by Peter, but they're actually written around the same time he writes the books, and if I've got my internal calendar set correctly then that'd be a couple years before he started Stormlight, or even WoT for that matter.

He writes the annotations when he does the copyedit. So the book is in its final form at that time.

Except that he didn't write any annotations for Way of Kings yet because there wasn't time (and I did the copyedit anyway, as Brandon was in Wheel of Time mode). He won't write them until he finishes AMoL. Which means I'll have to find something else to put up for a few months when Warbreaker runs out. I'll put up Mythwalker, but then will still have a couple-month gap.

In the Warbreaker annotations, Brandon says that Mythwalker was him writing a typical fantasy story after being really bummed about not being able to sell any of his books.  It's where Vivenna and Siri started out as a character concept.

EDIT: He hasn't written the WoK annotations?  Dangit.  Does he ever intend to actually publish Mythwalker?  I doubt it, but I'd be uncomfortable with reading it if he ever decided to publish it.  Is it a Cosmere book?

When to live is to die, and to die is to live, does either really matter?

Publish? No. But it will probably go in the deleted scenes section for Warbreaker. It's a Cosmere book. Aspects of it were later used in Warbreaker, Mistborn, and even Way of Kings. There are only 22 chapters.

So basically everything important from Mythwalker has been ripped out and put in other books?  Did he finish it?

It was never finished. There are some things that didn't get reused elsewhere, but a large percentage of it was. Brandon doesn't waste ideas.

LOL...there are only 22 chapters?  Any other author and that would be a BOOK.   ::) :P
