Hard Drive Crash
« on: April 13, 2004, 07:57:27 AM »
My hard drive just died. Suddenly, boom, it's gone. I had a chance to back up my assignment, and that's it.

My computer is old enough it's not worth replacing, so it looked like I'll have to buy a new system. Using the same savings I'm living off. (Which means I need to start looking for a job.)

If I'm not around often for the next while, this is why. I'll probably put in an order for 1.5K $ worth of parts tomorrow.

Why do I feel like my best friend just died?

This was the computer that I first had the internet on. The one I became a PC gamer on, the one I found my first message board on, the one I first formatted myslef, the one I first changed the hardware of myself.

Now, it's gone....

I still have *most* of the parts for my first one. I just gave away the video card. It's always easier to deal with these things when you buy BEFORE the old one dies.

Well if you think it did break then it isn't JP.  The only reason you're having you're problems is becasue you willed them into existance.  Ignore them and they'll dissapear.
Screw it, I'm buying crayons and paper. I can imagineer my own adventures! Wheeee!

So I willed into existance the sudden "KLUNK KLUNK KLUNK" sound, did I? I willed into existance the loss of all my data?

I have a WHacking shfift tomorrow morning. These Koala's have picked the wrong day to climb up on the bridge, given that an angry man in need of release is being paid to hit them.

Do they give you specialized equipment for that, like a stout cricket bat?
Its an automated robot. Based on Science!

If it makes you feel any better, my monitor suffered an aneurysm yesterday.  It's not as expensive as your repair perhaps, but I just got Battlefield Vietnam on Sunday and now I can't play!  Curses!

can you still degauss it? A monitor shouldn't be thrown out as long as you can watch that weird fit the display does when you degauss your monitor. That's so cool. Everyone do it now.

ooo! Pretty rainbow!

Yes, I can deguass it, which temporarily makes all the flashing static into flashing multi-colored static.

No, No, No, take a magnet to it! Make it all pretty and multi-coloured.

Ok, dead monitor is bad too. If you want to pay the postage, I'll be happy to send you my 15inch CRT whose screen is ever so slightly....purple.

Hey, thats not bad at all! I'll be able to pester you to play demos online now.
If you're ever in an argument and Entropy winds up looking staid and temperate in comparison, it might be time to cut your losses and start a new thread about something else :)
