Holy crap. You're right about Robert Downey Jr. I won't give up on Nathan Fillion, though!

I don't understand what you guys see in Nathan Fillion.  I like the guy, but for Kelsier?  Robert Downey Jr. has my vote as well,

never shall I have shame in this revolution I've started. Looks like Robert Downey Jr.'s winning for Kelsier!

This ^

I like Fillion, he's actually one of my favorite actors, but i can NOT see him as Kelsier. Though, he would probably do an AWESOME Ham.

Oh, and I LOVE the idea of eddie izzard as breeze. He would do great.

Interesting question - who would play Reen?

He'd only really show in flashbacks and hallucinations, I guess, so the voice is more important than anything else. Any thoughts?

Well, whoever plays Reen also has to play Ruin pretending to be Reen, so... someone versatile I guess.  Depends on whether every time we hear Reen's voice it is actually Ruin (Which I think I remember hearing...it's not?)

I think the voice she hears is distinctly her brothers, though the words are Ruin's. So at some point there would probably be a shift...at which point either James Earl Jones or Morgan Freeman will voice Ruin. Or I will cry.

Now, it also seems that there are two growing camps for Vin - Ellen Page and Summer Glau

I personally think either could do the role, as they've each done similar characters in the past (shy/nontrusting skinny girls who wear a lot of black and kick serious tail), what do the masses think?

let the frenzy (re) begin!

I don't really know Ellen page, but Summer Glau is a tremendous actress who could play Vin perfectly.

ONLY problem is her age.

I really can't see either of them in the part.  Ellen just doesn't work and Summer is too old.

I have this really specific picture of Kelsier in my head, and RDJ is not it.
When to live is to die, and to die is to live, does either really matter?

well why don't you describe your specific image, perhaps we can work together to find the program actor that fits your needs?

Ellen Page all the way!  From what I've seen of Glau, definately too old.  I can maybe see her playing Hero of Ages Vin, but short-haired boyish Final Empire Vin?  No way.  Of course, by the time the movie actually happens, Page might be too old as well.
Nonetheless, she has my whole hearted vote.

The funny thing about actors and actresses in the business is that they often play age ranges, not their specific ages. For instance, all the characters on the High School TV-drama "Gossip Girl" are well in their mid twenties, yet they're all playing 17 year olds. It happens.

I'd never thought about Robert Downey Jr before.  Great choice, non-believers should go watch Chaplin to be converted.

I don't know if anyone's suggested it, but what about Edward James Olmos for Clubs?
