So I purchased the hardcover from Sam Wellers of The Gathering Storm and when I received it I saw that it was signed by Robert Jordan and Brandon.  I am confused as to who signed Robert Jordan's name on the book?  As we know it was unfortunately not Robert Jordan himself.

Not only am I an giant WOT fan, but also a book collector.  I was surprised and slightly disappointed to find a posthumous signature on a book I purchased.

my guess is it's either a reproduced version of his signature or that of his wife signing his name. I kinda doubt it's sanderson signing as jordan. Actually, i quite highly doubt it.

But this is just my guess.

Edit: that or it's an outright forgery, which i suppose is also possible.

The signature does look like his though. I imagine the signature was just scanned in, or perhaps Jordan signed one title page before his death and they were all photocopied. Either way, Robert Jordan would be the man who signed your book, but if you look closely they are all printed with the book and not signed individually.
I came because I heard stories, tales of a lengendary man.
A man who was known as the Lord of the Mists, a man they named Survivor.
A man called Hope.

It's a scan.  It's in the UK edition as well (I imagine it's in the other editions as well).

Ahh...so all hard covers for Gathering Storm have this signature then?

That makes me feel better.

Not only is it digital, it's a gray image printed with a standard linescreen so the dots are large and clearly visible. It was never intended to be mistaken for a handwritten signature.

Yup, ook's right, if you look closely at it, you can pretty clearly see it's printed and not actually hand written.

And yeah, as far as I'm aware, all hardbound copies contain the signature, though i suppose I could be wrong, but I doubt they're gonna stop doing it suddenly.

Brandon said on his blog that the signature is there on his request; he didn't feel right about signing the book unless RJ's signature was there also.

I thought I read, most likely on Mr. Sanderson's blog, that the only way he really felt comfortable signing this book was if it had some equal version of Robert Jordan's mark on it as well.  So they had the image printed on every book.

Edit: Yeah, what he said ^

Gotcha...thanks everyone for the clarification.

I didn't look too closely, but not that I did, I can easily see that it was printed on.

I was more concerned that someone else, maybe Robert's wife,  had signed the name.

Thanks again for the clarifications.

Did somebody ask for the Department of Redundancy Department?

My book has RJ's signature in it too ... I think it is some kind of Boskone plot!
