Move to the light side of the force and use Fire Fox.

I do; unfortunately I can't make everyone viewing my website do the same.

Of course you can.  Many websites simply lock you out if you don't have the correct browser. :]

What is it you're trying to make the CSS do?  Perhaps a bit of JavaScript/DOM would be a better way to do it?

I'm with miyabi. Unless your website is selling something, screw IE. (I considered using milder language, but even what's there doesn't begin to express the depth of my anger and frustration towards Internet Explorer.)

Although, I wouldn't advocate locking people out. Just put a nice polite message explaining why things don't look/work right, with a link to your favorite alternative (on Windows, mine is Google Chrome. On the Mac, I use Safari. Firefox is for web development.)

Also, Silk, you may find this to be relevant to your interests.

(No, that doesn't begin to express what I feel towards IE, either. I'm not sure the strongest language would.)

Thanks, I'll check that out - I'm just looking to pad some div layers so that it doesn't look squished and ridiculous. For some reason, IE only seems to register top padding instead of left or right.

What version of IE are you using, Silk?

IE8 is Acid2 compliant.

On the note of grumpiness:  IE8 is monstrously slow, and I want to convert to Chrome.  But Chrome doesn't yet support manually filtering cookies, and that's a dealbreaker for me.

Alack, I must wait to switch to Chrome.

7, at the moment. I suppose I should theoretically be testing in 7 and 8, but the thought breaks me.

Edit: This is more of a mild annoyance than anything I particularly plan on spending a whole lot of time on. Usually my "testing" in IE goes as far as, "does it work, check yes or no". I'm just whining 'cuz it makes my site look dumber than it already does ::)

Why not instead of using padding, use their positions to do it.

I'm using floated divs. That by itself works fine in firefox (of course) but IE does this weird thing where it takes the whole thing and kind of squishes it into one corner, and it looks dumb. :( So I was going to add a bit of extra padding to space things out in the IE version, but IE doesn't seem to ... notice.

Also, IE takes away my dotted border around the div block. Which makes me sad, 'cause it looks dumb(er).

Where's this web site? Maybe I could have a look. Floats can do odd things that you don't expect. There may be an easy fix...we'll see.

Sure, thanks: http://melody.byethost8.com/about.php

(Just don't go to the home page right now, as I'm... experimenting. ::) )

I think I like floats better so far, but I'm pretty new to them. As in, I decided yesterday that if I had to look at my novel any longer I'd scream. I guess 30,000 words in two weeks is enough. ::)

Continued in PM to avoid cluttering this thread with discussion of debugging Silk's website. :)
