What's Brandon up to now?
« on: April 12, 2009, 05:56:27 AM »
Since Brandon got to 100% on the revision to The Gathering Storm, I've noticed that his progress bars have stopped moving.  Now I don't expect him to keep working at the pace that he did for that last couple of weeks, but I did hope to see something change.  Does anybody know what Brandon is up to now?

I've got a few guesses.
1)  Taking a short break to recover from the big push to submit The Gathering Storm.
2)  Doing another quick feedback/edit cycle with said book.
3)  Trying to pick up the pieces of things he had to hack up to make a coherent story for TGS and weave them together for AMOL:2.
4) Working on some other project.
5) Some combination of the previous 4.

Anybody in the know want to comment?

I'm betting he's getting ready for JordonCon this week.

Brandon is twittering.

Ham & rolls.

Anyway there isn't a progress bar up yet for what Brandon will be working on next. (He mentioned Way of Kings revisions in his Splitting AMOL article and there's a good bet he'll do that next while taking a break from AMOL so he doesn't get burned out.)

All Saiyuki fans should check out Dazzle! Emotionally wrenching action-adventure and quirky humor! (At least read chapter 6 and tell me if you're not hooked.) Volume 10 out now!

But only so an hour. Then leaf subsides to leaf.

The best thing to do when a phone is dead like that is to stick it in the oven at 250 without it's battery for about five minutes and then let it properly cool before you turn it on.  It fixes it most of the time.  (Besides, the phone is already broken, so why not try it.)

My mum fixed her and my little brother's phone that way.  Worked like there had never been a problem.

how would heating up the phone fix it? I mean once the water is in there the damage is done isn't it?

The problem most people have is that they instantly turn their phone on after it gets wet.  If you heat it up/let it dry out COMPLETELY . . . meaning you should take it as apart as you can without taking out screws and letting it dry for a few days, then turn it on, you are less apt to have problems.

using a hair dryer can help.

I never heard of sticking the phone in the oven to dry it off. That's so weird. I just let my electronics dry off.

I think Miyabi's advice is dependent on the assumption that the phone is powered off with it falls in the water.

An oven might bee a bit too much, 200+ degrees is sufficient to cause some silicon chips to superconduct and that would be bad, very bad.  Not to mention that thermal plastics cure at 225 deg.

But a hair dryer can help, as long as it's not too hot for your bare skin.

Yeah that's the problem my phone is usually on 24/7.

In that case yank the batteries immediately after a dunking. Then follow above recipe and pray.
