What kind of dog is this?
« on: February 20, 2009, 03:05:47 AM »
So in recent we found a stray puppy. We've been taking care of him for about a week now, and we've taken him to the vet a couple times. 3 different vets gave us three different answers, so we aren't sure what he is, so I just wanted to get some other opinions of what people think he is! Thanks, all! :D

To me by the pics it looks like a tan beagle.  :-\ If that makes sense. But I KNOW that's not right.  Can labs be different colors?

Well, I know he isn't a beagle. We have a beagle, and he's about twice her size, and he's still a puppy :P

(vet said he's about 4 months old, FYI)

My wife is a Vet student, and she agrees with miyabi, it's a mutt.

I'm not sure, something about him looks familiar to me.  Do you have a better picture of his face and head?
I wanted to write something profound here, but I couldn't think of anything.

I can try to take a better one later tonight.

Also, i suppose it's worth noting, I mentioned earlier we got three different answers from three different vets.

The answers we got were:
St. Bernard
Akita
and Shepherd

Also, I suppose when he grows up in a few months I'll post some more pictures of him, and maybe we can get a better idea from that.

By the way, I named him Pharaoh Steve

Well, it's been about 5 months or so and he's gotten alot bigger. He certainly looks to have at least SOME st. bernard in him, he's really starting to get the droopy lookin face going.

here's a couple of pics of him being lazy. He's laying on the same bed as in the above pictures, in fact, the body shot he's laying in almost the same spot as the very first picture.

Good dogs don't have to be pure bred..i have some good experiences with mutts...though an unrecognized breed is considered a mutt too isn't it

That's the truth! I've never had a pure bred, and I wouldn't trade any dog we've ever owned for one. Not sure about unrecognized breeds, though.

Very cute.  I would have to say I think he's a mutt myself.

I have to say, I prefer mutts at the moment.  My dog is one himself (we've been told he's a german shepard, pug, miniture snozer/terrier (we've been told both for the last one) mix.)  and he's the cutest thing in the world.

How big do you think the Pharoh is going to get?
"The custom of royalty in referring to oneself is to naturally employ the royal 'we'.  We are very happy, we are very sad, we are bored and suffer from ennui.  For a royal prince there's no such word as 'me', It's always 'we'.  So rightfully I should be two or three, don't you agree?"

Probably not too much bigger, if at all. He's about 8 or 9 months, now, so he's done alot of growing, and i don't expect a whole lot more. I'm guessing he'll probably start getting HEAVIER though, pretty soon, if he does indeed have any st. Bernard in him.

So over the weekend we had our last training course with this puppy at petsmart. They gave out diplomas and such for the dogs, and also gave em little graduation caps to wear

So i snapped some pictures, and I figured I'd post em here for you all, as i think they're kinda cute.
