Yes. The roles were reversed though; the old guy was supposed to be black and the young guy was supposed to be white. Though I can't remember the plot significance of that—I'm pretty sure there was one.
All Saiyuki fans should check out Dazzle! Emotionally wrenching action-adventure and quirky humor! (At least read chapter 6 and tell me if you're not hooked.) Volume 10 out now!

They also made a movie out of Timeline and fouled it up... I had such high expectations.
My friends held an intervention, to stop my ridiculous plans to take over the world (Jake ended up in the hospital). I convinced them to let me take over other worlds though.

I vaguely remember the movie. I think they changed more than just the main characters. I think they also changed the race of the killer, iirc.

And Avalon, the only thing worth watching Timeline for was Billy Connolly and Neal McDonough.  ;)

Saddly none of the female cast was that enticing... I was hoping that hollywood would manage to put out a well-translated version of a complex and detailed story, and not manage to mangle it up. In retrospect - I may have been a bit delusional.

Didn't they make a movie out of that book with Wesley Snipes and Sean Connery?

You are correct.

In The Great Train Robbery, the way that Pierce attains the gold is simply astounding–so very ingenious. Crichton was certainly a master of his field.

I read the book long ago and can remember very little about it. I know it's based on a true story, but having read on Wikipedia the summary of the true story, I doubt the book bears much resemblance to that.

It doesn't much. The times are different (I think).
