Nope, didn't end.

Part of my problem is that without some kind of external influence, I am compelled to tell every idiotic little joke or gag that pops into my tiny little head. This is why my novel is 658 pages. This is why 8BT is over 1,000 pages. The incompetence of the characters involved is just a thinly veiled cover. Thank god for Scott and the finite nature of the 22-page comic book format, or Atomic Robo would be on its 11th issue (coming out December 22nd, you should pick it up) and only now going out the front door.

So, when I thought of cutting to a dream sequence as a gag ending to yesterday's comic, well, it had to be done. It was my hope, as a cruel and heartless person, that it would generate a great deal of ire. I do this all the time. Like, I'll go to the store and Lydia will tell me to pick up something we need, and when I get back I'll pretend I didn't get it just to make her mad so I can then show that I did get it. For some reason, I find it hilarious to lie completely at random with no possible goal or gain in mind and that she would believe me.

Think about that for a second. What kind of deranged person are we dealing with here? There's the Imp of the Perverse, but I think this is the Imp of the Total Jackass.

For the record, she's mostly broken me of the habit. For some reason she doesn't think it's hilarious to be lied to for no reason! Women!

Anyway, you were supposed to get mad. Because, wow, what a shirt ending, right?

Instead I got a ton of heartfelt e-mails thanking me for years of hard work and wishing me well on whatever comes next. Even from the people who hated the fake ending. Oddly, most folks seemed to think it was a horrible way to end the comic and therefore perfect. Which, really, I should've seen coming. I mean, this is 8-bit Theater afterall.

My joke completely backfired and now I feel like an ass for making a bunch of strangers say very nice things to me. You were supposed to say mean things, y'jerks!

I do find some comfort, though, that my favorite kind of joke, those that are on the audience, looped around and became a joke on me.

Well played, 8-bit reading public.

Anyway, seriously, you'll know when it's over for real. In the meantime, thanks for coming along the ride with me.

That said, I actually stayed up to manually update the site a little late just to freak out the night owls. Total jackass!

He really is a bum. But in a good way.

Silk:
Haha. That post made me laugh as much as the comic did.

CthulhuKefka:
The man definately knows how to work a crowd.  :D

I used to read 8-bit theater a loooong time ago, so I guess now's a good as time as any to get caught up.

So today I went to nuclearpower.com like six times and everytime I went, my computer got a virus warning and the internet explorer had to shut down before any problems happened. Bummer. I love the story and was looking forward to wasting my whole shift reading it.

MrPaperCamel:
You went to nuclearpower and not nuklearpower?

Hope your comp is okay.
