Fell is indisposed
« on: August 12, 2004, 08:25:36 PM »
I might not be on CoH or TWG much for the next few days, since I rushed my wife to the hospital this morning for emergency surgery. She's okay, so nobody worry, but she'll be in there until Sunday and I won't have a lot of time for other stuff.

So wait, what happened to Dawn? Do you need any help?

I hope she makes a full recovery :)

As some of you may or may not know, my wife has been pregnant for about 7 weeks now. This morning at about 8:30 (or yesterday morning, I guess, by the time you read this) she started to get pains in her abdomen that, fifteen minutes later, had spread to her entire torso and completely incapacitated her. I tried getting her to the car but she blacked out, so I called 911 and had an ambulance do it for me. In the ER we learned that her pregnancy was "tubal," meaning that the baby was growing in the fallopian tube rather than in the uterus--you know, where there's actually room. The pain she felt at 8:30 was the tube exploding because the embryo had finally grown too big for it. By the time they got her into surgery at 10:15 there was 2.5 liters of blood in her abdominal cavity, which the doctor said is the most he's ever seen. Once they got her all cleaned out and patched up she was fine, and she's been resting in the hospital ever since. They're going to keep her there until Sunday, and my mother-in-law and Mustard and his wife are staying with us until then.

As far as I know about these kinds of things (I had a roommate years ago who had a tubal pregnancy), these kinds of pregnancies can't ever be carried to term. I don't think they have the technology to move the embryo to a safer place. Many miscarriages are tubal pregnancies that the woman's body has naturally rejected.

Fell--I hope she's okay now. That must have been scary to see her go through it.

They didn't have to do a hysterectomy did they?

They didn't do a hysterectomy, but she did lose that side (the fallopian tube and ovary), from my understanding.

Tubal pregnancies are essentially considered miscarriages, since there's almost no chance the baby will survive. At this point Dawn is pretty relieved about that, to tell you the truth, since she wants to get all healed up before worrying about being pregnant.

I'm sorry to hear about that Fell, but it is good to know she is making a full recovery. And I'll watch SE while he watches the site.
