How long after HoA does the paperback come out?
« on: September 11, 2008, 03:22:20 AM »
I want the hardcover. I do. But it's not Christian McGrath's artwork. ;) I'll probably end up buying HoA on the 14th of October anyway.

Still, anyone know?

Probably around a year after the release of the hard cover.

Publishing logic would suggest that it will come out sometime next year,  around the same time as the final WoT book, in order to capitalize on his increased name recognition. Probably not before, but soon after, or possibly simultaneously.

Which would be about a year. xD I think it might come out a few weeks before WoT so that people go, 'Oh Brandon Sanderson???  Isn't he gonna write the WoT book?  I should read his book while I wait for the other to come out.'

Maybe. I thought that the WoT book was due for summer release, but I'm very probably wrong about that.

They might also wait until a couple weeks after, when many more people will have just finished it and go in to the store going "Sanderson! I gots to get me some of that!". They might figure that people interested in checking him out prior to the WoT final can buy into the first Mistborn novel, or Elantris, and it might drive sales of the 3rd Mistborn hardcover a little, right towards the end of its cycle, which is never a bad thing.

I'm just guessing.

Well, the Wiki for the WoT book has it slated for for an Autumn 2009 release, so November sounds about right. Then again, it is Wiki.  :D

I think he said at a signing a little bit ago (not sure when it was exactly.  Sometime this summer) that it would be around christmas of '09.  Of course, that could have changed since then.
"The custom of royalty in referring to oneself is to naturally employ the royal 'we'.  We are very happy, we are very sad, we are bored and suffer from ennui.  For a royal prince there's no such word as 'me', It's always 'we'.  So rightfully I should be two or three, don't you agree?"

The last I heard was him commenting on the whole split book deal with one in October and one in November. So right about there seems right if it's just one volume.
I came because I heard stories, tales of a lengendary man.
A man who was known as the Lord of the Mists, a man they named Survivor.
A man called Hope.

I am guessing that the Hero of Ages paperback will come out around the same time as the Warbreaker hardback. I don't know what month it's coming out, but it's gotta be on the schedule already. The word "May" is floating around in my skull, but I don't know where that came from.

Oh, here's Brandon's OLD publishing schedule: http://www.brandonsanderson.com/article/50/Upcoming-Books-by-Brandon-(And-Warbreaker-deal-news)
Quote
A little tidbit of news. We just finalized negotiations on a four-book contract, including two books in the Warbreaker series and two books starting a new series. First book of Warbreaker is scheduled for a May 2009 release. Huzzah!

So, for those of you who have asked, here is my upcoming book schedule:

July 2007, Mistborn 1 paperback August 2007, Mistborn 2 hardback October 2007, Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians Hardback May 2008 (tentative) Mistborn 3 hardback Fall 2008 Alcatraz 2 May 2009 Warbreaker Fall 2009 Alcatraz 3 January 2010 Warbreaker 2 August 2010 Liar of Partinel (Dragonsteel 1) Fall 2010 Alcatraz 4 May 2011 Dragonsteel 2
I'll add the paperback releases to this as they are scheduled. In general, the paperback of a previous book will be out a month or so before the next book in the series is out. (So, Mistborn 2 paperback would be one month before the Mistborn 3 hardback.)

Obviously things have changed since then, such as Alcatraz coming out earlier and the whole Memory of Light thing.
All Saiyuki fans should check out Dazzle! Emotionally wrenching action-adventure and quirky humor! (At least read chapter 6 and tell me if you're not hooked.) Volume 10 out now!
