Women's Clothing Questions
« on: January 27, 2005, 03:25:00 PM »
As a man, I am often times confused when it comes to the choices that women make.  My most recent bout of confusion came only several moments ago.  I was sitting in the lounge preparing for my Constitutional Law class at 2 when I noticed a fellow student walk by wearing a pair of sweat pants with "UMKC LAW" emblazoned on her...ummm...how to say this without being offensive to our female members...ummm... rear end.  She then turned around and I became aware that she must really be a fan of the UMKC Kangaroos as her cut off baby-T that was 3 sizes too small had the UMKC mascot and "GO ROOS" emblazoned on the small amount of cloth that was covering her... umm... torso... yeah,  that's it.  Torso.

Anyway, as I sat there I realized that this might put me in a bad situation.  After all, most women don't like it when you stare at certain parts of their anatomy.

Then I began wondering why women wear clothing that inherently draws attention to specific parts of their bodies, and then complain that they are offended when the see men staring at those same parts of their bodies.

Can the women of the forum offer any info on this issue?
Boogie woogie woogie!!

Such girls seem to buy into the notion that they can wear what they want, while at the same time believing the "sex kitten" idea, that attention from certain men for certain things is desireable, I think. I have no idea. Personally, I don't go for such attention-seeking methods.

I have no idea.

In my opinion it's an example of hypocracy and low self-esteem.

My little sister wears clothing like that, and she's anything but sexual.  I think she just thinks that doing things like that is cute, and doesn't really understand the reaction it provokes.

Hmm, I shouldn't have made that statement seem so all encompassing. Sorry EUOL.

It does seem to be a clothing trend. A few months ago there was a big stink in a Ventura County school because a girl was sent home for wearing a pair of pants that proclaimed "luscious" across the obvious section of anatomy. The mother of said girl was furious that she had been sent home. "It's a designer brand!"

In my opinion, you just shouldn't do that to teenage boys.

Yes, what MoD said. I think the older the girl is, the more likely she has at least an idea of what it does, though.

Plus, though, there's the problem of simply not being able to find clothes that fit right, given the styles. I bought a shirt from my college bookstore last semester that is a perfect example. I figured an extra large would have given me ample room. It was about 3 sizes too small. An extra large for a twelve year old, maybe.

It *is* a clothing trend, and that's why a lot of them do it.  The trend understands the sexuality issue, but not all the girls do - some of them do. It's "cute" to flaunt what you've got.

But I agree - you don't DO that to teenage boys.

We don't mind.

Well, so where's the line for you as a guy?  Where does it stop being "wow that's hot she's barely dressed" and become "ew"?

It fluctuates...

In a club, dressing up or one on one... not so bad...
However walking down the street, in class, etc... bad

School is definately one place where girls and guys should not be wearing sexually charged clothing. I went to catholic school and I know... every single girl in my school wore her skirt way too high... thats why my wife is my wife now. I saw her first in high school...  ;)

the skirt thing made being in school difficult. Pretty soon your focusing on it rather than your work.
