New Sanderson Reader via WOT
« on: July 02, 2008, 02:23:13 AM »
I found this site after going over Brandons page. After Robert Jordan's passing i found myself in a kinda depressed anger. At the time i found out about his passing due to my brother thinking it funny to send me a picture text of the headline because he knew i was reading the WOT. So right off the bat i was kinda pissed. I then realized that the series i had spent so long following came to an abrupt stop right at the end. That was deeply depressing, knowing that the man who created this thing that i loved had passed away before he had the chance to finish it hit me like a brick. So i distanced myself from the whole thing,i heard they announced a writer who was going to finish the series and i didnt care because it wasnt RJ. eventually i decided to look up the new author. i have to say i havnt read any of Brandon's work but im now very interested in doing so. The book break downs he posted showed how much he actually cared about this project. it showed he knows how much this matters to so many people, i find that to be the most important thing in selecting the new author. after going over some of your posts on this site im interested in finding out more about his writings.

He is a very good author and will do an amazing job at writing it I'm sure.

It won't be the same as Jordan obviously,
but it will be a comparable substitute.

I'm interested in seeing how the styles will mesh, as both Jordan and Sanderson are very unique.
Also i have one concern... in all of his published books Sanderson has a common theme; he likes to explore religion. I have absolutely no problem with this and being a religious person myself i quite enjoy reading what he has to say. However i am afraid he may unconsciously make it a theme of AMoL as well... i completely trust him and i am sure the book will be great no matter what.

He encompasses more than just religion my friend.  He takes Government, Religion, social structure, etc. into play.  I do however believe that he will try to break off from his traditional style in order to be more adept to Jordan's.  He has stated before he will do his best to emulate Jordan's writing in this book, it is not his to change.

Monsta, I know.

Everytime I saw any of Jordan's book for the first few months after his passing, I started to tear up. It got to a point that my family had to put his books in a box and not let me near book stores. He was an amazing man, and anyone who says otherwise has a few million angry fans to answer to, but he's at his peace now, and his successor is nothing less than deserving.

I was a bit unsure of Brandon doing the writing on AMoL, but now that I've read Mistborn and Elantris, I'm fairly confident of his ability to polish it off right and do RJ some true justice. Jordan writes excellent epics, giving characters more life than most real people - which Brandon still needs work on (his characters seem a bit distant, somehow...), but RJ did that work already. What's left is what Brandon is good at: endings.

Everyone else: Brandon does write with a number of social overtones, but I'm confident that he has the skill to put a fine ending on the greatest fantasy epic of all time. He's a die-hard fan of the Master, and I believe he's taking every measure to stay true to his form.
My friends held an intervention, to stop my ridiculous plans to take over the world (Jake ended up in the hospital). I convinced them to let me take over other worlds though.
