WoA question: kandra hunting (spoilers?)

Could Vin have burned malatium in an attempt to discover the kandra that supposedly infiltrated Elend's inner circle?

As I recall from MB1, malatium causes visions of past versions of everyone in view.  What would show for a kandra?  If I had to guess, it would either be some past body used by the kandra or nothing at all.  Both might give the kandra away.

As it turns out it wouldn't have helped detect TenSoon anyway.  But throughout the book I was hoping she'd give it a try.

wow thats a good question. who knows what vin would have seen. maybe she wouldn't have seen anything in the same way that a kandra can't be affected by emotional allomancy (at least without duralumin). or maybe it would show a mistwraith or a different body or maybe it would show a kandra with no body (i wonder what that would look like). i really have no idea.

I had asked Brandon this question some time ago and here was his response, read into it what you will:

I suspect that she would see the kandra wearing its true body-this will be explained in book 3 (wink wink).

That's an incredibly good question, no doubt about that. There are so many things that malatium could reveal (considering people and especially kandra are always changing).

Would using duralumin plus malatium reveal an image that was more in the past (sort of how flaring atium sees a bit further in the future)? But, Vin used malatium and saw an image of the Lord Ruler that was a thousand years ago.

So, if anything, I would think it would show a kandra in its original form, whatever that may look like.

i'm sure its true form also has something to do with killing it. i mean TenSoon said he killed OreSeur and nothing we've seen so far indicates how they can be killed. i'm curious as to what their true body looks like and its weaknesses.

My guess is that only Kandra can kill Kandra, and that is why the Mistborn could kill them.  They are thier own only weakness.  Mistborn can control Kandra, and make them kill eachother.

That's a good theory.  Of course it could also mean that they could learn of a Kandra's existence by exerting that control.  The Mistborn could then make the Kandra kill itself, or stand there and allow itself to be killed.  Maybe they can only be killed in their true form?

Interesting.  Maybe they all look like Vern Troyer in their true form.  That would make me want to change bodies, anyway

I think the Kandra are going to be very prominent in Book Three. Brandon seems to be building them up as the story progresses. I would love it if we got to go into a Kandra's POV at some point, perhaps get a glimpse into their society. But I doubt that will happen. Either way, I have a feeling they're connected directly to the novel's plot in some way. I hope so, anyway.

Well, you know me. In my Ruin and Preservation topic, I explained that Kelsier got the Eleventh metal from the kandra. I will be utterly convinced of that fact until Brandon proves me wrong.

But I don't think I will .
