Saturday Morning Cartoon's Greatest Hits
« on: July 27, 2007, 03:01:12 PM »
Here's the track listing for the original:
Quote
1.   The Tra La La Song (One Banana, Two Banana) -- Liz Phair with Material Issue (The Banana Splits Show theme)
2.   Go Speed Racer Go -- Sponge
3.   Sugar Sugar -- Mary Lou Lord with Semisonic (from an episode of Archie)
4.   Scooby Doo, Where Are You? -- Matthew Sweet
5.   Josie And The Pussycats -- Juliana Hatfield & Tanya Donelly
6.   The Bugaloos -- Collective Soul
7.   Underdog -- Butthole Surfers
8.   Gigantor -- Helmet
9.   Spider Man -- The Ramones
10.   Jonny Quest / Stop The Pigeon -- Reverend Horton Heat
11.   Open Up Your Heart And Let The Sun Shine In -- Frente! (From an episode of The Flintstones)
12.   Eep Opp Ork Ah-Ah (Means I Love You) -- Violent Femmes (from an episode of The Jetsons)
13.   Fat Albert Theme -- Dig
14.   I'm Popeye The Sailor Man -- Face To Face
15.   Sigmund And The Seamonsters -- Tripping Daisy
16.   Goolie Get-Together -- The Toadies
17.   Hong Kong Phooey -- Sublime
18.   H.R. Pufnstuf -- The Murmurs
19.   Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy -- Wax

So I got Gemm thinking on this, and we've got a list for what would be awesome to have rock groups performing for a volume two. The shows I pared it down to are in the poll.

Remember, the song doesn't have to be the theme, just a song used in the show. Ones already done by a rock group aren't really up. Like, Rocko's ModernLife was awesome, but it was performed by the B-52's, so already hip.

Give me more ideas for options, and suggestions for band/song pair ups.

I still say "The Wild West C.O.W. Boys of Moo Mesa" would've been a good one. =P Or maybe Super Mario Brothers Super Show!

We're the Mario Brothers, and plumbing's our game
We're not like the others who get all the fame
If your sink is in trouble, you can call us on the double
We're faster than the others, you'll be hooked on the Brothers Unh!
H-hooked on the Brothers. Gimme gimme, gimme gimme.
Yo, you're in for a treat, so hang on to your seat
Get ready for adventure and remarkable feats
You'll meet Koopas, the Troopas, the Princess, and the others

Hangin' with the plumbers, you'll be hooked on the brothers to the brink!
Unh! Unh!
I say a h-h-h-h-hooked on the brothers!

I've got the Transformer movie soundtrack (original) and batman beyond.

Also found online the Pizza hut TMNT album and a MR. T album (should have downloaded that but didn't).

Little disappointed that Duck tails didn't get on over Dark Wing and Tailspin, I know SE prefers the other two but Duck Tails was more popular then the other two combined.

Transformers theme =Van Halen
Animaniacs = Bare Naked Ladies
Muppet show = Talking Heads
Screw it, I'm buying crayons and paper. I can imagineer my own adventures! Wheeee!

ha, those are some awesome band selections
I felt that DD translated to rock, not wimpy pop, better than Ducktails. The themesong, that is

You know what has made my fingers twitch towards the wallet? The School House Rock CD's. And I didn't see anything for the Bugs and Tweety Show (that's what it was called right?)

I know this is an ancient thread, but I kind of want to hear Yakko's World sung by somebody like She Wants Revenge.

I really think it would be cool if Panic At The Disco sang the "Hey Digimon" song from season one.

That was my favorite Saturday morning cartoon.  That one and Pirates Of Dark Water.

Duck Tales, Awhoohoo!

I think Tool could do some really interesting covers of any of those themes, tbh. They're a pretty versatile band.  :)

I would like to see Me First and the Gimme Gimmes do some as well.

I can't even believe that you guys haven't talked about the Turtles.
What is wrong with you?
By far the most amazing show/theme song ever.

I think I might go do something drastic due to loosing faith in this forum.

I'd like to see a punk version of the Turtles theme. The original theme song just kind of has that feel to it. Maybe Rancid or Pennywise.  ;D

Wow good call CthulhuKefka. That would be quite amazing. Rancid is a good choice. I think Pennywise is a good band but a little more pop-punky than Rancid. Both would probably do a good job though. One of my friends did a punk version of King of the Hill and it was awesome.

King of the Hill has a punk vibe to it, I can see that.

Side winding here for a second, I'd like to see the Family Guy theme done in a lounge singer fashion. Maybe someone like Richard Cheese could do it.  ;D

Back to old cartoons, "The Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Light" (obscure for the most part) I would love to see done with a Gothic rock band, maybe Nightwish.
