How to get Published?

All (Especially published authors),

A very dear friend of mine has become a tremendously good writer. She'd like to get published, but has no idea where to start.

In November, she wrote a novel. In December, she worked out bits of another novel. In January, she and I worked out the plot for another few novels.

And it is good, too. I admit to a bit of bias, but her writing is very good. She has consistent worlds, plots that make sense, and characters that are both convincing and compelling.

How, oh how, does she start on the path to being published?

1) Determine what publishers might be interested based on their existing catalogs;
2) Read each publisher's submission guidelines;
3) Follow those guidelines;
4) Be patient and persistent.

I know there is already a thread or two in this forum that discusses this very subject -- search for words like "agent" and "query letter" -- and of course Google is your friend.
