The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!
« on: January 04, 2007, 02:17:38 AM »
Ok, who remembers this show? I did the instant I saw the DVD set. This was some great television that came straight out of the end of the 80's and made it into the 90's. I mean, c'mon, the Mario rap is some pretty good stuff. And then there were the live action skits that were just... honestly, terrible.

But the best part is the cartoon. I mean, when most of the soundtrack is ripped directly from the video games, how can you go wrong? When the physics of everything makes you question your existence, and you find yourself laughing even harder then you may have when you were a child watching the same thing, where's the harm?

I swear, best $20 I've spent in a long time.

I remember this show from a long time ago when me and my sister were into mario.  :) I have two episodes on video. I remember one  with a basketball player on it. I didn't like the part at the end with the mario guy doing a dance and poping up in different places. Well that's most what I can remember.
Are you ready for  2007?:) I am!!

I know sprig loved it, but honestly, in a street fight pee wee herman would rip mario's head off and shove it back down his own throat.

Ah, but that's the beauty of it all. In one episode the live action mario made reference to pee wee herman. I was thrown off and almost missed it but made the reference. This show was on when Pee Wee was something big. And this show is still something big in my heart. Is it something big in your heart too? If not

IT SHOULD BE!

Oh ya I still think the live action segments are great, the cartoons are meh though some good most not.  Better then Pee Wee though....hummm not sure about that.

I saw some Pee Wee Herman shows on Cartoon Network a month or so ago and the guy was majorly creepy!!! Like, to the point I'm not sure I'd want my child to watch it.

But I didn't feel like that as a kid. I *loved* that show. But there was something just weird about the show from my adult perspective--I can't even put a finger on it--just a general feeling of ickiness. And the conversation between Pee Wee and the female phone operator--that had all sorts of weird sexual tension going on that was completely lost on me as a child (fortunately).

I know, I know. I grew up and became an adult and can no longer enjoy the joys of Pee Wee's Playhouse, it seems. Oh, the tragedy.

I would have to say that if Pee Wee's Playhouse creeps you out now, than you weren't appreciating it properly as a child. We have them on DVD at work, and I make my coworkers sit throught them every once in a while.

Doesn't that fall under the "torturing co-workers is a no-no" category?? ;)

My kids kind of like the Mario Brothers thing though....with the cartoon my three year old thinks that he is watching a video game :)

I can remember watching these all the time, but I think I watched them so I could watch the episodes of Zelda, not Mario.  I'm pretty sure they would show Zelda every once in a while.

They had the "scenes from Zelda" preview in each episode, so that might've drawn you to them. Hmmm... I'm wondering what a live action sitcom Zelda would play out like...
