Come to Dallas... :}
« on: November 13, 2006, 05:44:26 PM »
I am a new fan, I picked up Elantris last month and devoured it, I immediately went out and bought Mistborn, which I finished on Saturday.

I loved both books and am looking forward to reading the rest of the Mistborn trilogy!!  I was so engrossed in the characters that I found myself unable to put the book down, which hasn't happened for me since I read the Tad William's Memory, Thorn and Sorrow series years ago, kudos and thank you for a wonderful journey!  You definitely earned a place in my list of favoured authors.

I saw a list of your book signings, but you aren't coming anywhere near Texas!  so please do:}

Yeah, Williams' rather long "trilogy" 8) is quite engrossing. Mistborn has a similar epic feel, but...sharper. That's the only word I can conjure.

I LOVE Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn.  (Okay, except for the endless 'crawling through the caves' scene in book one and the equally endless 'living in the forest with the elves doing nothing' scene in the second one...)

Tad is a brilliant writer.  I think his style had a heavy influence on my own, though I try to stay away from QUITE so many thoughtful digressions as he tends to have.

The only thing about Memory, Thorn and Sorrow that drove me nuts was the switching back and forth in the chapters :}  It definitely made me want to read a lot faster!  George R. R. Martin has a similar style in his books (series anyways) as well.

He is quite detailed in some spots but Memory, Thorn and Sorrow had nothing on the detail in the otherworld series.      Have you read these ones as well?  So different than his other novels.

When I first picked up Mistborn, I wasn't aware it was a part of a series (having just read Elantris) I thought it too would be a stand-alone.  Not that I was dissapointed in anyway, shape or form but now I have to wait !! :}

Any news of an expanding book tour?  If not, I am sending books to my friends in Portland to have them signed at Powells!

And another new fan!... Just read Elantris and have ordered Mistborn (hope it comes soon!!) - guess in the meantime I can start Warbreaker. Elantris was a refreshing change from most standard fantasy books, wonder if it will ever be made into a movie.

I also love the Brandon Sanderson website. It's great to see what's going on in his world and mind =) I hope he does makes it to Dallas one day, would be awesome to meet him.

So anyways..... where do I sign up for the Brandon Sanderson Fanclub?  ;)

lol.  Well, you're in the right place.  I'm very glad you liked Elantris!  And, if you want to get an email if I ever come through Dallas (which I'm sure I will eventually) send me an email via my website, mentioning where you live and reminding me that you're the one who posted here.  I'll put it in my files, then send you a note when I pass that direction.

Until then, enjoy Warbreaker and Mistborn!  And, if you REALLY want to do me a favor, loan Elantris out to friends and family.  (Or even get them to buy it themselves.... :) ) It's a bit tough to break in as a new writer, and I need every recommendation I can get!
