Jam, this is a forum. The purpose of a forum is discussion. Not allowing discussion is, therefore, counter-purpose to it's existance.

Throat feels even worse today.

I realized I was all hot, too so I checked and yep- I'm running a fever.

*swears*

I got a sore throat, cough, fever, runny nose, etc. on saturday.  I thought it was just a cold, but then last night I had to go to the emergency room because I couldn't breathe.  I just got back, but I'm kind of afraid to go to sleep, because every time I start coughing, then it takes about a half-minute before I can start breathing again.  So I'll pray you don't get too sick like me.

So I had an appointment with my dentist to have a root canal this morning.

Well, apparently on this tooth, there are suppose to be three canals to be removed. The dentist removed the first two quickly then hit a snag on the third. After about a half-hour of digging and drilling, he could find the last root canal. So he took some x-rays, then drilled some more. Still couldn't find it, so he had another dentist look for it. More drilling. Then another dentist. None of them could find it, or they think they found it but couldn't get to it.

So now I have to go see an Endodontist to get the root canal finished.

Oh...and now that the novicane has worn off...OW!

So now not only has my computer stopped recognizing my iPod--this, after wiping it clean, so I have no music at all on my iPod--now, it won't recognize my external hard drive. I've reinstalled Itunes and the iPod software about 20 times in the last 3 days, no change. I've followed all the instructions from here for when you get such a message. Nothing. I reinstalled the software for the hard drive. Nothing. It's got to be something to do with my Firewire card. Except that I plugged the hard drive in via USB to see if the computer would recognize that, and it wouldn't.

This, on top of all the internet problems I've been having. I've had MORE problems with my computer since reformatting the hard drive, not fewer. This is really just ridiculous. And I can't describe it to someone well enough in this medium for them to suggest things to try, because nothing anyone's suggested has worked.

And believe me, I've done the obvious. I've run McAfee about once a day. I've run SpyBot. I've run AdAware. Nothing changes. I'm at the point where I'm considering getting a new computer. But then, how would I transfer the data? It'd require the external hard drive! Perhaps it's the wireless card, which has caused nothing but trouble since day 1. Perhaps it's because I bought a piece of crap Celeron that burns my lap when it's been on too long.

So, if anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them. As long as they're not of the "maybe you have a virus" variety, because I've been there. And don't you dare even suggest a reformat. I have a week left of school and I don't have TIME for that. But I'd like to move with my iPod intact. I can't even listen to it because there's no longer any music on it.  >:(

You didn't say you'd reinstalled/updated the drivers for the frewire/USB card. Did you try that? Sounds to me that's where the problem lies at a guess. Worth a shot, anyway.

I'd love to come up to Boston and troubleshoot. Heck, I'd love just to go to Boston again.

But yeah, unless you want a long call to Arlington, I don't know that I have many new ideas, esp without specific errors.

The problem with checking the drivers for the firewire card is that I can't figure out what it is in the add/remove programs to remove it. Plus, now the external hard drive *is* being recognized. *grumble, grumble*

The good news is that I'm moving to Seattle in a week and a half, so I intend to make friends with someone who works at Microsoft.  ;) The bad news is that I won't be able to use my iPod till I figure this out.

drivers won't be in add/remove programs. They'd be in the device manager.

See, this is why I need a computer friend here. I'll check it out.

Stacer, if it makes you feel any better, I had the same problem a little while ago, and after a couple of days, it was back to normal.

Nope, doesn't make me feel better. Because it's not going away. Well, at least I can back everything up on the external. I went to the Apple forums to see if anyone there might help with the Ipod problem, and one person thought that installing SP2 would solve the problem. It hasn't. And now I have no sound, because SP2 blocks my Yamaha sound card, because Yamaha is too stupid to update the driver. I was able to get around that previously, but I can't remember how.

Finally resolved the grumpiness, because I found the right audio driver, and then uninstalled and reinstalled Itunes and Ipod software yet again, and it all finally works. Ipod is currently synching for the first time in almost a week. I will be able to use it again. Yay!

I am ridiculously tired for absolutely no good reason.  We're talking brain-fuzzy tired, and I got nine hours of sleep and have only been up for...I can't even count the number of hours I've been up, because I'm that tired.  Ten.  Ten hours.  That's the number of fingers I have and that's a good thing because I had to use my fingers to count because of how tired I am.
