Wow, congrats.  I didn't do NaNo, but if I did I'd be sitting on about three words.  When do we get to read it? ;D.

MOD:  Look, I started a NaNo too!  I'm about as far as I would be about now, too, I'm a quick worker!  Here's what I've got:

There was a...

Isn't it great?

We'll see. THis is obviously just the first draft. It needs a stern re-write. We'll see how that turns out. On the whole, I'm much more satisfied with it than i am with what i have so far on Peks, even though it is in a genre I never thought i'd write.. or even read, for that matter.

Oh, and thanks too :)

Tomorrow i'll see if I can find some time to get the calendar up to date.

Well, my friend finished with 104,918 words. I've been reading it too and it's rather good.

I finished with about a hundred words over and a real ending yesterday. I feel less satisfied than I should.

The real reason? The book is about my main character learning something. I wrote the book to try and figure it out myself. He figured it out, but it seems I'm yet to, and thus writing the whole book was pointless.

What was it that he figured out and you didn't?

You'd have to read the book for that. But to summarise, here is the final page (Spoilers, obviously).

"Ask away."
"Did you ever find your answer?"

"To what."

"What are you looking for?"

"When we first met, I said what to do with my life, right?"

"Yeah, you did."

"I found an answer to that. I was right all along - I want to be a writer. But more importantly, I decided it didn't matter. Whatever I did, I'd end up where I should be. So I did decide what I want to do with my life. I want to go where it takes me. Same as always, but now I know it's right."

"And what do you think you're looking for?"

"I don't think I'm looking for anything. I did think I was looking for a girlfriend. You were smart on that one, it was true on two levels. First of all, I was talking to you at the time. Secondly, I realised after that, that it wasn't a girlfriend I wanted, really. I was so fixated on the idea that that was all I needed, it would solve all my problems and make me happy, that I failed to see the bigger picture. Mainly, the times I felt most lonely were also my happiest. I wanted to share these moments with someone. I realised between then and now, that if they are good enough to share, then surely I can enjoy them on my own."

"One more question. What was it you didn't know you were looking for?"

"Something on the Edge of Perception. I couldn't see it, because I had it the whole time. It was like looking for the hat you're wearing, you never think to look on your head. But what I was looking for -I don't know if it can be described in words. I'll try. I think it was a kind of self-acceptance. I knew there was all this bad in the world, and I wanted to change it. What I needed to realise that a lot of that bad was meant to be there, and couldn't be any other way. That the bad within myself, in particular, was necessary, and I would be worthless without it. In that way, Imperfection is good. That's what it was, and that's all. I was looking for Something Human, and missed it looking for Something Superhuman."

Felicity had no answer for that. She turned towards me, took off her sunglasses, and turned towards me. Only then did I notice. She had one brown eye, and one green eye. Imperfection.

I leaned over and embraced her.
