The Bad Novel
« on: February 10, 2005, 12:13:58 PM »
I'm taking seriously the idea to make a really horrible novel.

I need people to post who are interested. If we need to, we can make a forum for this.

I reckon after we know who's interested, we can make up our core characters, then everyone can write a chapter or two. Time limit will depend on how many people are there. Some continuity would be good, so maybe there should be an over all plot, but everyone should feel free to write a chapter that includes none of the core characters, nor any characters that were seen before or will be again, or has any affect on the plot in anyway.

What do you think? who's in, and how should we organize it?

I'd like to be in on it as long as the submitted work can actually be really terrible as in not a lot of effort put in beyond spur of the moment ideas and rapid typing.

"Skar is the kind of bird who, when you try to kill him with a stone, uses it, and the other bird, to take vengeance on you in a swirling melee of death."

Oh, i'm all for minimal effort. It's not like I have a lot of effort to put in, y'know. I just thinkg there needs to be a basic way to roganize it.

Well as far as I know we settle on at least two main characters, know very little about them.  Perhaps we should agree on one other universal thing to give some variant of consistency?

Their kingdom is plagued by a dragon!

He, of course, is a knight. The brooding type. Handsome and desired, but quiet. Sir Griflet.
She is a princess or noblewoman or something. She loves him. She's beautiful. Her love may or may not be requited. Eomine

whattaya think?

Ok, but we need to make sure we don't all collaborate in anyway, such that their personalities change every chapter, they have no memory or reference to past events (And when they do, they contradict) and they change accents frequently.

Even better, we need the novel to change tense halfway through. And one chapter should be an "experiment" written in second person, future tense.

Someone needs to come up with a rough outline of events at least, on the order of

He and She meet
She is kidnapped by dragon
He discovers she was kidnapped by dragon
He gathers a crew to go rescue her
His whole crew dies in some horrible way
he has to face the dragon alone
...

And then assign out the pieces.  There's a fine line between deliberately bad and total nonsense.  Total nonsense is not funny, just annoying.

So some infrastucture is required, but a minimum there of
"Skar is the kind of bird who, when you try to kill him with a stone, uses it, and the other bird, to take vengeance on you in a swirling melee of death."

Hugh meets the guards, guards show him around the city.

City is attacked by a ruthless dictator who wants control of the territory aforementioned city holds. Hugh meets king.

Sandra is introduced and is taken by Hugh to find a power that can help defeat this dictator. Sandra and Hugh don't? get along.

Dictator internalizes dialogue as he speaks to his dead father wondering why it is the king of the City resists him so when all he wants to do is bring about a class structure that will equate everyone with each other.

Introduction of Edwin, the undead three legged human who shows Hugh and Sandra the way to said power of "victory."

Ummm... hows that for a start? On the outline-ish thing?

I didn't like those names. They're too, tripeled.

Well i'd have more fun writing his than what you posted, though maybe we can throw a dragon in there too.  I'm torn on the names.

I think it would be great to have it be typical middle ages fantasy and be riddled with horrific anachronisms.

Well, the Dragon can be used by the Dictator and can talk to him through certain means and be his best friend or somethign because they have the same values.
