Interesting thing for the writing group
« on: February 01, 2006, 10:55:42 PM »
It just so happens that I ran across something that may be of intrest to those of you that know of and/or are in a writing group, whether or not it is the on one this site. Over on Del Rey's site I found this:

ftp://http://www.randomhouse.com/delrey/groups/.

It looks like a cool idea to try out, if at least once. Of course you do have to be affiliated with a library or bookstore...

We should totally scam that!  Who has connections that would be willing to front us as associated with their bookstore or their library?  Hmmmm?  Out with it!

I work for Orem Public Library.  Let the scamming begin.  Any suggestions?

They might contact the Library to make sure.  So make sure you're the one who answers the phone.  =þ

Well, why don't we actually form a book group affiliated with the library? Is there an official way to do that? Are there specific requirements? All we want to do is get books and read them, which is kind of exactly what they want us to do--it's not like we're using their system for some kind of dark, unintended purpose.

I can certainly look into it at work.  Shouldn't be too hard.

If it's not a scam, it's not worth doing.   :D

Ahh, the Orem Public library. My old reading ground. That would be so awesome if this site could do book reviews!  :D

There's a whole section called "Books" if you look on the main page.

Doh. I know there's a Books section. But, so far, whenever I've checked it, I've only seen people discussing books, but no "official" book review per se. But I admit I should've investigated more. Sorry. Wow, I'm embarrassed now. :-[

So, um, are the reviews done on advance copies or on copies after they're formally available for sale? I ask because I didn't think this thread would've popped up if TWG was already getting advance copies. Anyway, whoops.

You're talking about the forum. We're talking about the front end of the site.

I think that the review is for the author to make inprovments or something like that. Or it could be what you said. How should I know?

Yes, I see now. I don't check the front-end of the site nearly enough!! I'd better change my link to bring me to there.... I suppose I thought that any reviews would be linked from a related thread on the Books forum threads--like with the Gibbs' movie reviews. And, if they are, well, I suppose I missed them.

Mea culpa. Lo siento. Es tut mir schrecklich Leid. Pole.
