converting my wife...
« on: February 16, 2006, 09:04:16 AM »
My wife is not what you'd call an avid reader. She reads occassionally. Usually stuff like  "Celebration!" or some such. But she recently decided to look for something to read. My first response? I pulled out some of my favorites that weren't too heavy (I tend to enjoy some fairly involved and emotionally draining literature) -- Graham Greene's The Tenth Man, LeGuin's Wizard of Earthsea, and a few more.

She ignored my pile of books, much to my consternation, but to my pride she *did* pick up War and Peace. It brings a tear to a Comparative Literature major's eye.

Anyway, why is this thread in this forum? Well, Monday, while I was at work, and with no encouragement, she picked up Elantris. Read the whole thing cover to cover in less than 3 days. Loved it.

Maybe I'll get her to read Mistborn too.

Roxxors.

That's great SE. My wife read the first several chapters of Elantris and said that it was good but then stopped reading. She says that she will read the rest when she gets enough sleep but considering how our kids are, I think it might be a while before she finishes Elantris.

my wife did the same thing...she thought that is was way cool and interesting, but she decided that she needed sleep.  I swear, sleeping is so overrated!

My husband has been reading it and enjoying it, as well.

News on this front, my wife's sister is borrowing Elantris. She is taking a week off to hang out in a beach house and read and loaf (she has a pretty high stress job, and this is something I'd do too, I'm jealous). She was going to save Elantris for this trip, but she announced last night that she can't put it down.
