I'm happy because I'm the only one in the office right now so I can listen to the Cure at obscenely high volumes.

I don't really want to speak too soon, but I just found an apartment fairly close to school for $450 a month including EVERYTHING, furniture and all. Wheee!

Okay, so I haven't contacted the people yet, because it's so late to call. But you should all, like, pray for me, I want it so much...

I'm happy because I can access the internet again. It wasn't working all day Friday and Saturday, all the way through this morning. I was beginning to think that I'd have to start paying for my internet again.  :) I will eventually, but right now free is good for the broke girl.

I'm happy because I can finally access the Internet from my own computer again.  And the reason for this is a new wireless device for my little laptop.  I'm finally on wireless with the rest of the world!

Yay! Which reminds me that I need to get a new wireless card. I doubt it's the signal so much as my stupid Netgear wireless card. Can anyone recommend a better brand than Netgear?

Yay! My hair will no longer give me headaches! I donated it today. It is now very cute. :) Layers and fluffiness and lazy curls... It makes me very happy. I have been talking about it for a month and finally just decided to do it.

Netgear is one the top brands, it could very well be your signal you'd be surprised what could block a wireless signal.  It really probably doesn't matter about what card you have (as long as it's a G or G/B type) over what router you have.

You can check newegg for the best deals, Linksys is a good brand if you do want to buy a new one.

I dunno. I've heard some pretty bad things about Netgear, and I know our Netgear wireless router in Boston always was giving us trouble. And then when my roommates' internet was working, mine wouldn't. So, perhaps it's not the brand--perhaps it's that it's being used in a Celeron and got burnt up. This computer runs pretty hot.

you get complaints about every brand, even if they're good. For example, I have a Maxtor Hard drive that has been in a computer that runs 24/7 and it's been in computers doing that (this is the third computer) for the last 6 and a half years. Very few electronics of any sort can boast that sort of performance. Yet I know a good selection of people who CONSTANTLY complain about the performance of Maxtor in general. So yeah, Netgear, over all, is a pretty solid brand. But if you have reservations, especially based on personal experience, I don't blame you. I'd advise like Sprig, go with Linksys in that case.

Every broken harddrive I've ever seen has been a Maxtor.

I've never seen a broken seagate.

I draw my conclusions from this. My old maxtor died after three years. Current Seagate is two years and going strong, so I'm not ready to judge based on that, but my friends all use seagate and have no problems.

three years is a reasonable period for a piece of hardware to last, though. That hardly indicates suckage.

I don't believe they suck, merely an inferior brand. Among my group of computer using friends, several six year lasting seagates are there, while the lonest lasting maxtor is three and a bit years. Just my personal experiences show Seagate to be a superior brand.

I own a Linksys G PCMCIA card for my laptop.

It makes me happy.
