When I think back on all the crap I learned in high school, it's a wonder I can think at all.

Heh, that brings to mind one of the few amusing events that happened in english over the years.  You know how classes and teachers spend ages for the HSC reading a whole lot of illiteration and symbolism etc. into texts.  Well, they'd been doing this to this poet and his poetry.  Then they managed to get him to come in and talk to them about it.  So, they prepared a whole heap of questions about symbolism etc. and when he came, asked him about them.

He told them they were talking rubbish.  his answer was something like "I just wrote the poem, this other stuff is a whole lot of crap".

Kinda sums up the educational system don't it?
