review: the Princess books

Wow, I just thought the Princess and the Goblins was a kid's cartoon.  Didn't know they were based off of a book.  Now I'll have to read them to find out if they're better than the cartoon (most likely they will be).

Funny thing about the title. It's singular, one goblin, which made me thing that we would have a single goblin nemesis. Not so. Unless the king of the goblins counts. Or the prince goblin.

Detail I forgot to mention in the review that isn't a spoiler so much as an interesting rule that we find out from the beginning: goblins don't like rhymes. So miners hone their skills at rhymes to keep the goblins at bay. I found myself wishing I could make up rhymes so well.

Those were some of the first fantasy books I read as a child!!  I love them a lot.

ho...I haven't read these in YEARS. I should look them up again.

I remember something about goblins not having toes, but one of them has 6 on each foot, or 10 on each foot, or something, and hides it out of shame... um...something like that.

And the title "princess" in the first book is not the same person as the title "princess" in the second book.

Actually, yes, it is, unless you're referring to the old princess, the great-great-grandmother.

Exactly. The young one had almost no role in the 2nd book that I recall. Well actually, what I recall was that it was my mom's observation that the title Princess in the 2nd book, the one who interacted with Curdie, was the old one, not the young one.
