Douglas Adams was one of the most incredibly skillful humourous writers I have ever come across. Everyone needs to have read HHGTTG, or they have not yet lived.

Yeah, I saw that story on slashdot. Apparently they submitted the proposal to do so about 18 millenia ago, but it only just got through the committe mess.

Which raises the question, why do they call it a duckbill platypus,... I mean are there so many other Platypus breeds that the Word Duckbill actually differentiates them from another?

It's a relatively unremarkable space rock, orbiting 224 million miles (358 million kilometers) from the sun in the main asteroid belt, between Mars and Jupiter. But its name held triple significance.

Not only did it memorialize the year of Adams' death (2001) and his initials (DA), but it also referenced the number 42 "
