In any thread discussing Douglas Adams (or platypi for that matter), do the posts really have to make conversational sense?

Which raises the question, why do they call it a duckbill platypus,... I mean are there so many other Platypus breeds that the Word Duckbill actually differentiates them from another?

Maybe the name "platypus" was too undescriptive, so they decided to add "duck-billed" just to make it clear. Or maybe someone wrote down a description w/ the name beside it and then got confused. Or...something.

From sci-fi.com wire:

Walt Disney Pictures, which is producing the upcoming feature adaptation of Douglas Adams' SF spoof Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, has announced a contest to find the most dedicated Hitchhiker's fans in the galaxy, the Dark Horizons Web site reported. Contestants are asked to submit an essay of 250 words or less on why they became fans and how they live their lives according to the titular fictional guide.

Six winners—a number derived from the addition of the digits in 42, which is hailed as the answer to "life, the universe and everything" in the Hitchhiker's series—will be chosen to have their profiles featured on the official Web site for the film. Entries must include name, age, city and e-mail address and may be sent to [email protected]. The deadline for the contest is Feb. 25.

wait... you write them an essay... and they link to you..

If it was a site visited any less than Disney I'd say that's a cop out. I still think it's a cop out, but one worthwhile for boosting traffic. Everyone write an essay and have the profile link to TWG.

Something's weird, cause this thread always shows up as new even though there's been nothing new here for days weeks.  ???

Forum bug, happens every so often because Tage hates us all. I often get the stickied topics showing up as new posts. Just use the 'mark all posts as read' button down bottom.
If you're ever in an argument and Entropy winds up looking staid and temperate in comparison, it might be time to cut your losses and start a new thread about something else :)

actually, the software clears what is "read" every once in a while. If you go in and look at the thread though, it shouldn't come up as new again until that's cleared again.

Actually, it still keeps coming up as new. And Ent, I've never noticed the stickies not coming up as new.
Must be those evil ninja space monkeys of doom again *sigh*

ninja monkeys are trained to kill, not to screw up the web.

actually, I think SE is just trying to lull us into a false sense of security by telling us what his ninja monkey task force is and is not doing.  His real plan is to use his elite hacker monkey team to take over the world,  which is why he hasn't told us about them.
